Post subject:  JVC 303 drawer problem

I thought I saw this question in the posts some time back, but can't find it now that I need it.... :bigcry:

My #3 drawer on my JVC 303 player will open and close, but when I put a disk in and push play, it closes, makes a series of clicking noises (during which my #1 drawer jumps a little ) then my display shows drawer # 1. Could my drawer have gotten misaligned, or maybe a belt has come off? Is this something I can fix, or do I really need to have it serviced? My #1 and #2 drawers work fine.

yep, it's out of alignment... a gear has slipped.

You need to take it into a shop to get it fixed.

Just bought a RSQ single drawer. Right from the start sometimes when I would open the drawer it would shut automaticly. Sometime several time in a row. I called manufacture and the gave me an roa#. When asked on turnaround time with shipping and repair 3 weeks. This is a second player in my system but I don't want to be out 3 weeks without my second player. So I took the top off (don't do this unless you want to void warranty) and just started trying to figure out what happened. Spent about an half hour opening and closing the drawer without a problem. So I put it back to gether and I have only had the drawer do it once since then. Maybe my magic hands fixed it, don't know but I have run it in atleast 6 shows since then and no problems. I know not the same problem but  a quirk to say the least.

anybody know what causes the video to roll? Sounds like a problem on the main computer board on the player... I have two triple trays, and it does this on one.

I've seen this happen on cheap dvd players, but that was easy to just toss and get another!

Defective Player:  Video rolling somtimes is caused by a weak capacitor. Somtimes capicitors are used to smoth out the voltage to a video chip. When a bad cap is present the voltage can be inconsistant causing fluctuation in voltage, in turn the video chip inproperly functions and causes the picture to roll.

Defective Cable : Many times a picure will roll because of a defective cable.

Defective RF Converter : If your cables are determined to be functional, the rf converter maybe the problem.

It's possible there is a tiny pot (adjustable potentiometer) in the circuit that you can tweek.....Two actually, one for horizontal and one for vertical hold.

You can spot them by looking for a small round or square component on the PCB that has a tiny screwdriver slot in it....There may be several of them....If so, that means any qualified TV repair type guy can dial it in.....Some of the newest stuff have no such adjustments, it's all locked in using tuned components.

I'm betting yours can be tweeked.

if your player is near the top of a large case you cables may have broke or worked a solder joint free, by the weight of the cable.  or if you are connecting and re-connecting the cables you may have worn down the spring in the connector.  Eith one will require a trip to the repair shop, try a local shop, sometimes the are the diamond in the rough

I dunno how much "fix-it" you  have in you, but this same thing happened to my JVC a while back. I opened the sucker up and found that there are small tabs on either side of the disc drawer that snap into the mechanism that pulls each individual disc drawer under the lazer unit.  One of these tabs had slid out of allignment and was not allowing the mechanism to pull it under the lazer, which is why the system would then just bypass that drawer and go to the next. If you feel comfy taking the unit apart and putting it back together, then you can probably fix the problem yourself by just comparing the broken drawer to the functioning drawers and finding what is different.

If the unit in under warranty, though, get it serviced, as opening up the unit yourself probably voids the warranty.

Thanks TopherM, that's exactly what I wanted to know. My player is a refurbished one, so I'm not worried about the warranty, I just wanted a general direction to look at before opening my system, if there was a chance it may be an "easy fix". I did notice the notches on the side of the drawer, and felt it was the 'slider' in the drawer that wasn't moving, so I feel confident that you may have hit the nail-on-the-head for my problem. :oh yeah:

Thanks again!!!!
