I wasn't going to post anything in the forum, but I can't stand the fact that somebody may be trying to dupe us when we are actually all singing for real and trusting each other. So I believe I have nabbed a possible poser.. The nickname is "Sensational" and here is a link to his/her profile SENSATIONAL'S PROFILE
I was suspicious when this 16 year old had an obvious studio recording, so I checked all three of his/her recordings and did some research. This person currently has three songs on their list.. "Baby Come Back" the "Samoan National Anthem" and "I Wish I Knew"
Both "Baby Come Back" (which this person claimed to have written) and "I Wish I Knew" (which he/she claimed was a cover of some person whom does not seem to exist) are recordings by a Hawiian recording artist named Aloha off of her Cd entitled "Take Me Home." Here is a link to clips from the cd ALOHA ~ TAKE ME HOME As you can see, they are just taken from that cd and uploaded.
The third song, the "Samoan National Anthem" which he/she claimed to have sung with his/her cousin is a version he/she uploaded of yet another Hawiian recording artist.. a group to be exact, called "Pacific Soul." Here is a link to a clip of that song off of a cd PACIFIC SOUL ~ SAMOAN NATIONAL ANTHEM
As it it HIGHLY unlikely that this person can be 5 people at once, and that these recording artists would come give away their music on this site, I conclude that this is a poser....
Should I be wrong, I would certainly apologize, but I just can't stand by with this kind of evidence and let someone try to pull the wool over all of our eyes' ....
Respectfully yours, Elisha

I listened to the subs and the clips you linked to... seems pretty clear to me that she didn't write or perform these. I really don't get why people would do that. It's not like we're going to become famous on the Singers Showcase - what I get out of this place is a sense of pride that people like my songs. But if you didn't perform the songs you submit, what do you get out of it? Attention for something you didn't even do? I don't get it.
Thanks for the heads-up, Jazzy.

Well It seems a couple of those songs have been deleted, but I did listen to the remaining one, and I would have to agree. You know we just went through this a few weeks ago with another member, and I too am wondering what someone would get out of this. Not the first time this has happened, and probably not the last either.

There will always be idiots who think other people are idiot enough not to catch them sub'ing other people's songs. Posers are sick people

Good eyes and ears, Jazzy! I read your comments on the sub in question and realized you did your research. I didn't listen to the sub when I first saw it on the SS because I can't stand it when someone puts "PLEASE LISTEN" in all caps next to the title. (That drives me nuts! I mean, it's on the showcase, what else are we going to do besides listen to it??) Anyway, I ended up going back to the SS a little while later and noticed that it now had 3 comments next to it, and the "PLEASE LISTEN" had been removed. So I clicked on it, and read Jazzy's comment... and nearly choked on my drink. How funny!

I thought about that a lot after reading the comments... and it makes perfect sense to me: You happen upon this site. You CAN'T sing, and KNOW you can't... but have always wanted to. Furthermore, you have absolutely NO knowledge of how to record yourself with a backing even if you CAN sing. Ah, not to mention the fact that you crave attention and love receiving compliments from people where you can remain pretty much anonymous. I know! Let's find a relatively unknown artist that most people wouldn't be that familiar with, swipe one of their songs and post it as your own! Brilliant! Out of the hundreds of people on this site, no one will ever know the wiser. Right?
Let's face it... it's a heck of a lot easier to just steal someone else's pre-recorded music and submit it as your own than it is to take the time to sit down and record yourself, mix the tracks, add effects, etc. Then you can just sit back and relax, and read all the glorious compliments for something you did nothing more for than to spend a couple minutes loading onto a website.
I think we all know that a lot of people live their lives vicariously through the Internet. Pretending to be something you're not while hiding behind your monitor is a piece of cake. It seems, for some people, honesty is a foreign concept.

True, I suppose it shouldn't seem all that odd that people would do it simply for the attention and the compliments... but I just can't personally imagine getting any joy out of having people compliment me on something I didn't do.
Sure you've got attention, but deep down, how can those compliments actually mean anything? I suppose perhaps it could at least feel nice knowing you have good enough taste to swipe someone's music that people actually like...

It's odd indeed... but the world is full of odd people. Some of you remember "Hawaiian Chick" .... this is really odd. Because she had submitted Marina Davis songs... and "Sensational" mentioned that she has been compared to Marina. Could very well be the same person. :dontknow:
Nathan mentioned that this had just happened a while back... and I noticed that this person is still subbing here. That is disappointing. He removed the songs in question and blamed it on a nephew who got a hold of his password. Actually... he only claimed that ONE song was in error. But there was another song he claimed was original and written and sung by two band members... and I found it on SoundClick ... it was written and performed by a group (with different names) in the UK. When I called him on it he stated that he stood by his original claim that his band members had written and performed the song in question. (Which he had conveniently changed the title of). I also noticed that this person had previously offered help to one of the young girls here. That kind of thing does get creepy. I kinda hate outing people in the forum... but I figured he would go away after we called attention to it in his sub... maybe that is what we need to do. It just urks me that someone might actually trust and confide in this person. He claims to be submitting his own songs now.... hmmm..

I tried to find the late Dec. 2004 (or early Jan. 2005) girl in archives, who did this same thing using a Linda MacLeans vocal work, (I recall reading her comments, and descriptions). The writing styles of this "Kiana", and that other girl (who used two names around Dec/Jan) are very similar as I recall. Difference however being, the girl around 6 months ago claimed to have lived in a midwestern state.
Good work Jazzy. Aloha Plunkett searches are relatively obscure searches. There isn't alot on her on the internet that I was able to find. Just by song title alone, this would NOT be an easy search, Several artists have used "Baby Come Back" as titles. (Two that come to mind are Elvis, and Player). Unless this girl had direct links in her profile, this would've required a resourceful search. "Kiana" would only have been around 12 or 13 years of age (tops) when she "composed" , and recorded this "original" . The Album "Take me home" was produced 11-02. Kiana is only 16 now . I wonder if these people feel shame when they get caught ? At least enough shame to not keep repeating the process.

Quote: I really don't get why people would do that.
It's a simple concept. They want to be looked up to and respected. They are stealing, yet it's also a strange form of idolatry. A person with low esteem fantasizes, carries the fantasy out, and lives vicariously as someone who they wish they could be. They become the person they perceive as having a skill they feel would in some way make their own life fulfilling As wrong as what they are doing is, it's also very sad ! The girl who stole Linda MacLeans voice (in here around 6 months ago), said one thing that was quite honest, "I wanted my day in the sun".
Being perceived as a talented person, having an attractive shell, having the "Dr" prefix in front of your name often does grant preferential treatment, and immediate respect in a society that isn't often fair, and does in fact put an emphasis on what a person has.
The desire to be a "10" isn't exclusive to those with talent :need hug:

I can't be positive but I believe we have another. There is a person on here that is subbing all Kenny Rogers songs and it sounds like the original recordings to me! I hope I'm wrong but I have suggested he sub something besides Kenny. I tried to let him know I was suspicious in a "nice" sort of way. It just really ticks me off when I see people doing this. We all work so hard to get our own stuff on here.
His last sub was "Lady". If ya'll think I'm wrong....please tell me and I'll apologize to him.

I've just never heard anyone that is that dead on with a voice. I played some of KR songs that he has subbed and they sure sound the same to me. I guess I'll go edit my comment to him and apologize. I just looked at his photo album and it's very impressive. I'm glad I was wrong. Dang.....this guy is good!!!! Okay......so I boo- booed....I'll admit it!

Now I have to listen to this KR knockoff vocalist. I'm curious just how closely this person covers Kenny Rogers. I suppose in this particular case, you inadvertently complimented this individual LOL

Well, I apologized for being skeptical. He had not answered any of his comments on that sub when I edited it. But I apologized just in case he had read it. And yeah...I did compliment him.

Hi a10cgirl,
What you have done is in fact the best complement ever given to a tribute singer. Wayne has been around for over a year. he used to have a picture of himself and he does look like kenny.

Thanks, Badsinger. I saw the pics. He does look like KR. I just felt so bad because I questioned it...

It probably is Kenny. These 60's and 70's artists usually end up doing the wedding & Bar Mitsvah gigs after their prime. However with gas prices being so high, alot of artists are stuck home, they can't afford to travel to gigs LOL
