Aside from Karaoke Revolution, karaoke on the XBox is useless. You can only use their songs from their site. It doesn't play CDGs or anything like that. It's not really worth using because you can only record and playback on the unit, with no vocal effects or anything.
However, Karaoke Revolution is a lot like Dance Dance revolution, and you learn a lot about your pitch and timing from the game, plus there is an interactive crowd that feeds off your performance. It's a great party game!!

I actually considered using an X-Box for a karaoke show. After a lot of research it just isn't worth the price or the time.
There is a limitation to the total number of tracks you can have on the unit, recording and playback is limited to the tracks on the unit, the interface it marginal for playback in a fast paced environment, etc.
For home use to goof off it's ok. BTW, if you have a hacked X-Box you CAN upload ripped CDG's if you rip them to WMA+CDG. The information is on a number of X-box forums about the ripping and uploading requirements.
