Post subject: | Wanted: Tips for making good recordings to submit to Singer's Forum |
I am looking for any tips to make better recordings to submit to the Singer's Forum. I personally have trouble adjusting microphone input to mix properly with the karaoke backing track. Here is how I am doing it now: I have my CDGs ripped to MP3+g files. I use either CAVS or WinAmp with the CDG plugin to play the song and graphics. My sound card is a SoundBlaster Live 24 bit with the ability to record "What you hear". While the song is playing, I sing and it is being mixed while recording with Creative EAX console with NO EFFECTS selected. I save the file to MP3 format MPEG-1.0 layer 3, 44,100 kHz, joint stereo, 128 Kbps. I am using the Windows volume control to balance the sound between the CDG sound track and the Mic input. If I want a little bit of effects after the recording, I will play the recorded track and record again, this time with the effects on. System: Dell Dimension Computer P4, 3.0 Ghz, 1 Gb Ram, 320 Mb disk, Windows XP Professional, Sound Blaster Live 24 Bit. Microphone system: Winbel wireless VHF, WM-728, 600 ohm, Freq Response 40 Hz to 15 kHz. Any suggestions to improve quality and mix would be appreciated. If need be, I have a USB Sound Blaster card to use as a second sound card???? |

You are using Creative Recorder that comes with your sound card to record. Thats all right if you want to record 'what u hear'. If thats the case you may be able to improve your recording by; 1, rip your cdg to wav rather than mp3 because you will be recording an mp3 file that will be recorded to wav again, 2 you may want to add efx during recording itself; but dont over do it . If you want to record you vox in a seperate track then you need a muliti tracker program which Creative Recorder isn't.This way you can add efx to your vox without afecting the music track .You need to download either Audacity (free) here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ or you can get KRISTAL (also free) here http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/. Both are easy to use |
