Hi, I'm new here and thought I'd tell y'all a little about me. I'm an aspiring singer from Texas...don't have much professional training yet, only 4 years in my church choir and half a year of voice lessons, but I've been around music my whole life, and definitely hope to make it my career. (I'm planning on trying out for American Idol this summer.) I've only done karaoke a few times, most recently at about 5 am during an overnight walk-a-thon. I also have very little experience with recording, so I'd be very grateful for any tips anyone could give me! |

Welcome, Shadow! Check the other forums...there's info out the kazoo on recording and then, if you have a specific question, ask away! There's a big ol' bunch of very smart folks (of which I'm NOT one! LOL) that will be able to help you! Good luck with your Idol auditions....look forward to hearing you sing!! |

Hi, I'm also new to the site. I did a little singing in praise bands. Sometimes I have thoughts of going back to it. One reason I like Karaoke is that I can keep my voice trained in case I decide to go back to doing it. It is funny how the voice gets better the more you sing. Anyway I doubt I'll ever be a professional. I have two mortal enemies. My sinuses and my occasional bronchitis :) If you want, I can tell you some songs I love to hear women sing. :-David |

Hey, thanks for the welcome and the advice! I will definitely be all over the other forums checking out any tips I can find! Right now I use a program called Cakewalk Plasma to record...as soon as I figure out how to get my files converted to regular audio files instead of Cakewalk files, I'll post something to see what you guys think! David, I would love to hear your suggestions...I could always use more song possibilities, as right now there are very few songs I am comfortable singing (at least in public or without the original vocal - when I listen to the radio, I sing EVERYTHING!) I sing mainly pop music, although I haven't decided yet if I want to jump straight into mainstream pop, or start out in contemporary Christian and then cross over a la Stacie Orrico. But either way I have a LONG way to go, so I guess that's not a decision that has to be made right away. |

Well the first song that comes to mind I actually heard a woman from Texas do here in Cincy, Ohio. There she was in her bright red pants & top and cowboy hat singing "Nobody Does It Better" by Carly Simon. Made my heart skip several beats :) I'd say anything by Patsy Cline though I'm sure you know about those already. I've always wanted to do a duet of "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" in the style of Rod Stewart and Cher. Maybe I'm dating myself here. But I think it is such a beautiful timeless love song. :-David |

I have actually never heard either of those songs  I guess I'm dating myself, too, by admitting that. I don't really listen to country, either, despite the fact that "The real me is a southern girl..." as Jessica Simpson would say But thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep them in mind! |

That's okay. I've just had a lifetime of exposure to music since the 1970's. The great songs seem to get redone time and time again. I think a lot of it has to do with the lyrics. Maybe some of it is the audience needs to be old enough to really understand the lyrics. The Beatles come to mind. When I was younger, I really thought I knew what they were singing about. Only now am I starting to really understand. :-David |

Hi and welcome...I'm new here myself. I think it is great that you have a passion for music and singing. I sing country music and love singing in front of an audience! Karaoke is a blast...but wait until you sing with a live band for the first time. To me...that is a rush of adrenaline! Something about it makes me give my best performance. My advice to you is this...Sing as often as you can in front of an audience! It will help you get over your fears. Maybe start off singing with a group of your friends. If you want to make this your career...the key is to be heard by as many people as possible! GOOD LUCK!!! |

Hey, welcome to you too! I've never sung with a live band before...just a live piano (at my voice jury and choir concerts). Thanks for the words of advice! I'm definitely going to take advantage of any opportunities I come across for singing in front of people...starting with AI auditions this summer! (assuming the website ever posts when they're going to be! ) |
