Who uses what for FX/disco style lighting....I'm just now getting into the lighting thang....I need ideas and experiences. Thanks Gents. |

Don't use anything that spins or flashes "on stage". These types of lights are better suited for the dance floor. I run 8 par 38 cans going through an NSI 8 channel light mixer for the stage. 15" mirror ball with 3 pin spots, Martin DC2 fire effect, Martin DC1 liquid effect, 2 Martin PR1 gobo projectors. Have a fog hog, but quit using it, some of our customers are allergic to the smoke - some violently allergic. Thought about a bubble machine, but also thought that might be a bad idea for a dance floor - don't need people slipping on a wet floor & suing the club. Had 2 lasers, but got rid of them. There has to be enough space to be able to see them. Strobes are irratating for the most part. Whatever lighting you use, make sure that the flashy lights don't hit your singers eyes. |

I agree with Lonman - be careful not to distract the singers with moving lights on them or the screen. For some of the bar work or small venues, I'll use a light or two to add to the atmosphere. A Vertigo (sound-activated multicolored beams) pointed up and behind can look pretty good. For slow songs with dancers, I think a Starball (slow moving mirror ball effect) looks nice. For stage lighting, par cans should do the trick. |

I have par cans that I point towrd the singer. Out to the crowd I have 2 American DJ DJscan 250's, 2 american dj aggressors and 2 American DJ rollerton 250s. Honestly I never take lights to bars just private parties. |
