Can You run Two Winamp Players at the same time on the same PC? If so how? I got two display windows for one player but i need two players up and running. right now i use winamp and CAVS but would like to get it to only winamp.

You can run several winamps at the same time however here is the best way...

Install 2 Winamps and on the second install when it asks for folder to install to select a new folder called winamp2.   After install rename winamp.exe in the winamp2 folder  to winamp2.exe.. Then install the plugins for each winamp for what it will used for. For ex if I'm using S&D  winamp has min plugins  Winamp2 has all the plugins I use for background or DJ... Use a different skin for each one.

Tip for those using Winamp for hosting.... Put the folders contaning the karaoke files in the media library.  It has a lot better search engine and you dont have to select different folders in the search process..

Okay, this brings up yet another question...

if in using both winamps at the same time, how do you "mix" the music... fade one down while the other is brought up?

I tried one I think it was DJ_ Helper_v2 It fades from one to the other..  I havnt played with it for awhile and they might have a better one now. Do a search in the plugins on the winamp site for crossfade

I put my mp3 folder in winamp , put it on random play and use SqrSoft crossfade and just use one winamp.. That works fairly good.

Post Edit    AHA!!! http:// www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?searc ... =crossfade

They got 3 or 4 now.  Back to the  drawing board.  If anybody gets a decent fade between karaoke and background let us know...

Options/Preferences/General Preferences/Allow Multiple Instances

Start it twice from the Start menu.  No need to install it twice.  BTW, you can't start it twice by double clicking or right-clicking on sound files.

A true crossfade synchronizes  the beats and shifts the pitch between 2 players whether it is a manual or auto fade. In a pc software system  the multiple instance wont work because the same progam running both players does not truly simulate 2 players. You need two distinct programs running 2 players for seperate volume control etc.

My ultimate goal is an auto crossfader between the karaoke player and background player using 2 winamps which are more affordable than the expensive ones which  I wont mention.

One advantge is you dont have the karaoke logo playing for up to 10 seconds with no sound. Of course the main one is an automatic fade to background from karaoke depending on the delay and threshold settings. One click of the mouse provides a smooth fade from background to the karaoke song cued up.  Also the sound levels of both players can be at preset levels.

You have to enable multiple instances first.  You need to click:
Options/Preferences/General Preferences/Allow Multiple Instances

It might also not work on earlier releases of WinAmp.  I'm using Ver. 5 which works.  Ver. 4 doesn't exist, Ver. 3 was garbage, and while the later releases of Version 2 are excellent (2.8/2.9) Version 5 has a number of features not in that release.

If you still can't get it to work let us know.

Ok I installed the crossfader with sync and have a crude manual crossfade between S&D and background.  Run the Delta 44 and found in the output plugin Direct sound have the option of selecting 1/2 on S&D winamp and 3/4 on the background winamp.  End result is a seperate fader for each and I can run the background thru a compressor for ducking.  Its getting close to what I want however for some unknown reason after awhile either winamp drops out after a half a second of play.  Have to launch everything again to get back to normal.. Any ideas?

Not off the top of my head.  I'm still playing around a little to get this to work like I want and I'm waiting on my mixer to arrive for more testing.  I'll let you know once it arrives and I quit drooling enough to not risk shocking myself on the computer.

Why dont you try a dedicated mp3 player program such as pcdj red ? If money is a cocern, there is a freeeware program with dual decks and bpm matching calle MP3 Tunes. Much simpler then using multiple winamps.  It has cross fader, playlist, full search, pitch shift, all the good stuff.  Just google mp3 tunes. if you cant find it send me an email on my site at Seventhds.com, and ill add a link for ya to dl it.

Try Fadeamp v2.0, just installed and tested from winamp.com, set up playlist for background music and then it is just on click away, researching if it will fade auto when on stops.

look at a program called roxbox, I was just introduced to it and bought it.  It has two seperate winamp player, I use 1 for karaoke and one for background.  It has an excellent search feature, displays an upcoming singer screen, give you a registered version of the pacemaker plugin, it's customizable and just works great.  It was worth every penny of the extremely cheap $60 I paid for it.  It's my new favorite program.  the url is www.roxbox.net.  There is a free demo available you can try out before you buy.

Snowman,
You can run multiple instances of the same winamp.... under options, Preferences, general tab half way down the screen you'll see the check box.

I have the multiple accurances of winamp thats no prob what I am trying to do is have too seperate winamps and too seperate sound cards running so that I can cue music through one and play the music through two aother. What I am going for is three winamps. Two of them dedicated to one sound card and the other to another sound card. two for playing music and the one for cueing. I have a new soound card I just installed but I cant get it seperated fron the sound out put on the mother board. When I go to options /preferences/output in winamp I set one souncard to winamp 1 and the the mother board sound to winamp 2 but its not going as easy as it sounds.

Configure the Direct Sound Plugin  options->preferences-> output.... It has a drop down menu to select the sound source...The first two should be set on primary ( the one selected in cntrl panel ) and the third winamp set to the secondary sound card....

The multiple instance works as long as one uses the same seqwuence to launch the winamps and closing out... However the winamp.ini can be altered for one reason or another  then total setup is required again..
