About 2 weeks ago, I noticed something different when I record on CEP.

You know how in "Edit View" you see both sides more clearly? (right and left channel of the voice recording) And........pardon my choice of words, I'm NOT a techie, and NOT a CEP pro.

Well, in "the good ol' days" both sides were equal. Now- the lower channel appears to have a much greater volume. (JUST the vocal track mind you, never on the music track when I insert a wav file)

Now yesterday I subbed a song, and Jee has mentioned that it sounds like I recorded my voice on just the "right" channel.  So, while it IS on both channels, I'm guessing the right channel is recording louder.

I'm thinking it's my microphone, (or rather the mic cord) because it has been acting up a bit. When I have it hooked to my karaoke system rather than at my computer, it sounds different from what it used to. I think maybe one of my wires inside the top of the cord have gotten broke loose. (I had this happen to a cord once- too many little nieces and nephews that like to sing, and twist the cords at family events.)

So, if anyone has any ideas or expereince with this happening, please lemme know. Thanks.

Oh- mic is a shure SM58..... standard  20 ft. cord you buy for it. (I did replace it with my shure SM57...... same thing when recording on CEP)

If L is louder than R , or the other way around ;just pan to the center.

BSS, a mic is a mono device, so iit will only send 1 signal to the recording device. The only thing I can think of is that your balance on the mic has moved. You'll find a pan knob on the mixer that's relevant to your mic channel. Make sure this is TDC(Top dead center) The other thing you can look at is to make sure your mixer out levels are the same left/right

Hmmmmmmm....... I knew what "panning" was, but I guess I never looked to see if there was a "pan" knob on that mixer.

Guess what?  :wink:   ........ there is one

Guess where it was?  :oops: ....... about 1/2 way between center & RIGHT

I think maybe that was the problem. Too many little ones come to my house (nieces & nephews) and well, you know about younguns & knobs.  *lol*

Thank you Tony........and Jian.  It was panned to the right I guess.  I can't record today (rainy day, everyone is inside)  but when I do record again, I'm sure it will be fine.  Thanks again...... nice to see ya again Allstar, thank you for coming around to help.

Hiya Charm - I don't know anything about the program you are using ... but I do know about recording techniques ... and I can positively say that if you are having problems like that with that DANG VOCAL ... change the microphone cord. That dang microphone cord is the weakest link in the complicated chain of great recording.

And if that wasn't the problem ... you have a neat little spare mic cord in case of emergencies.

And if that don't werk, just pan the mic to the center. :dancin:
