This is the dramatic context as stated in the "Anthology of Italian Opera" , edited by Paolo Toscano:

From "Tancredi"- Act I, scene 5

"Tancredi returns to Syracuse, which has been besieged by the Saracens. Disembarking from his ship, he sings of his love for his native soil and longs to see Amenaide, his beloved. Tancredi is unaware that Amenaide has become engaged to Orbazzano during his absence".

Hope this also helps in listening.
