Hi, I'm new here, and this post is part intro, part test, since I supposedly am upgraded by my photo isn't showing up on my one submitted song or any of my comments yet. Having a hard time finding my way around the controls here! Maybe my photo will show up here? One can hope. :)

Anyway, I only recorded my first song yesterday, but I'm so excited to have found a place to share them at will with other singers. I can't wait to get to know some of you guys!

Oh, as for me, I'm a 32 year-old mom from Austin, TX who does everything she can to make it out of the house for karaoke nights at least once a week. Am I obsessed? I'm starting to think so... :)

Amy

Whoops! Just noticed the no avatar until your post count hits 10 thing. That would explain the photo, then.

Aw, thanks. :)

I don't have a very good sound setup yet, and my karaoke backing track selection is pretty slim, but I'm working on it. I look forward to posting more soon!

Amy

Hey Amy, just wanted to say hello!  I'm a newbie too, and loving this site!  So much so I'm neglecting my studies...

I agree with you that being a newbie is difficult as far as having backing tracks to choose from and getting all this recording stuff down!  But I say give us a few more months and we'll be doing great. :)

So far it's been great... just added sub #3 today. I like to think the technical quality is getting better as I go, but I still have a lot to learn from people around here!

Thanks, Badsinger! I still need to work on getting more volume while still keeping the peaks sounding clean, but I'm getting closer. :)

AAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!  How are all of you people:
1.  Hearing each others voices?
    and
2.  Getting your voices on here for people to hear?

Embarrassed, frustrated, eager to learn, newbie.

Hey there, HotDJ :) Check the FAQ Forum for several threads about mixing and recording... but don't get too intimidated right away. It can take a lot of equipment to sound porofessional, but all you really need to just get your voice heard is a microphone, some recording software (you can try goldwave free at goldwave.com), and an mp3 encoder (you can get those free online too). You can get backing tracks at Best Buy, Walmart, all kinds of places... or you can order them online through the links at the bottom of the forums pages on the left.

Then record and submit to the singers' showcase!

Thanks for the vote of confidence......I wish I felt that confident!

I've read about the programs Audacity and KRISTAL, and went straight to their web sites and downloaded them.  Then I opened an MP3 file through Audacity, and my brain completely fried from there.  I have not got the SLIGHTEST IDEA what all the tasks and functions do or are there for.  It is really overwhelming.....all those squiggly lines!  I have a friend who is an IT, and I'm hoping maybe he can at least get me on the right track to using these programs.
