Over the weekend, We found this board game called "Deluxe Encore"....you get a word and you have to come up with a song that has that word and sing at least 6 words from the song....its very fun.....but a part of the game is catagories....(i.e songs about cars).....it has some cool catagories and I was thinking of adding some of them here for options.

Also, this is over 30 weeks of 'theme/genre of the week' so I think it would be safe to go back and add some that were chosen in the first 10 weeks....anyone have any objections or do you want to just keep going with new ideas until we get through all the genres?  We havent had punk or jazz which have been on the list since the begining......any comments?

p.s I do suggest 'Deluxe Encore' for any family that likes music...and dont worry about what Genre you like....it is adaptable for all genres/generations....We played this weekend with my mom and my kids....my mom had all these old country/western songs that she knew, Old Paint and I battled over the newer country and Curlykate stuck with Avril, Ashlee and Disney (Seanman was too cool to play   but he did pipe in when he thought of a song to add)  ....We had alot of fun!!  :dancin:

I think going back to the older genres would be OK after so long...

And as for the categories from the board game... WHY NOT?!?!

Go for it!!!!

It'll be like our very own big online version... HAHAHA  I think thats a great idea!

Hi NHOH!

Thanks for your activity around the theme of the week.

A few categories that could be added to the poll:
- Acapella
- Alternative (rock)
- Boy-/girlbands
- European
- Idol contests (songs that were performed in finals for example)
- Latin
- National anthems (let's get to know these and sophisticate ourselves, no backing needed!)
- Tribute to late artists
- Upbeat tunes

There's some for starters!

I'm likin the gospel idea, I think. There's a couple ones I'd like to try..

Mike (ml_texas) and I have been talkin a bit about Southern Gospel lately... and I dunno... just got me in the mood, I guess.. PLUS... it'll get me recording songs for my dad that he asked for a bajillion months ago.

as for theme ideas.... I have two:

1) we GOTTA do that "showcase your friends/family" one... where we can sub songs of our friends.... spouses.... kids..... etc..

2) ~~Most important~~ April 6th is Ty's and My 3-year anniversary, so that week should be sappy anniversary songs dedicated to ME  8)  ;)

From a listeners perspective impersonation works fine :)  Curiousity would at least give people more listening hits.

One more possible category for theme week came into my mind:

- Personal Greatest Hits  :dancin:

Singers could decide during that week which of their 1 to 14 (14=maximum number of subs during a week) earlier subs were best according to their own or others' judging/rank/comments and re-post. I think this would be a great way to catch up with some of the best that SS has to offer. Those subs could be re-mixed at will or posted as is.

That would also work nicely as a "vacation" for singers, as no material will be necessary to work on!
