I recently started doing a lot a wedding receptions and like I figured Iam playing more music than I am karaoke (this is very hard for me). I have a decent amount of lighting but I really want to add a laser. Here are the two I am considering AMERICAN DJ EMERALD BEAM GREEN LASER EFFECT for about 325.00 plus shipping or CHAUVET PHOTON GENERATOR 7MW GREEN DMX LASER PROJECTOR for 385.00 plus shipping but the only visual I have seen in online with heavy heavy smoke to enhance effect. If anyone has had any first hand usage of either I would appreciate a lil help in making a decision. |

Those seem like good prices on both. If you can find a similar price for the ADJ Emerald Sync, that's the one I would recommend due to the number of patterns and effects (and let me know who your supplier is!). Lasers can become a little monotomous, IMO. Between the two you're considering, I'd go with the unit with the most patterns (which I think is the Chauvet). You might also want to add a cheap ADJ Widow or two to cross patterns and mix it up a little. |

snowman, Lasers are a good effect when there is alot of particulate in the air,(fog or haze), if you are doing weddings, hotels and banquet rooms are pretty picky about using foggers & hazers for setting off fire alarms. If you cannot use fog or haze then you will just get pretty patterns on the wall or ceiling. I also would be very leery about using lasers for a liablity issue, where you point them, so that nobody gets hurt looking at the laser directly. Any laser can do damage to the eyes if looked at directly. I don't know what you have for lighting,(spin & pukes), but if you want new lighting effects you should look at intelligent lighting, you get more effects, patterns, and scenes from them. Look at the Martin mx1 or Novascan v250 for starters. Lighting at a wedding should be used in moderation to enhance the party, not to take away the focus of the most important people of the day, the bride & groom. I am DJ first, karaoke host second. Hope this helps. |

Here's a post from another forum I visit for DJing, talking about lasers: EVERY TIME you use any laser over 4.95mW in public you have to get a variance from the FDA. From what I understand it's quite a pain. Also if you are going to be using you laser outside, you have to contact the FAA in advance, then the local air traffic control right before and right after your show. High powered lasers are not to be taken lightly. And the government isn't going to mess around especially after those incidents with the high powered laser pointers a couple of months ago. However, if you have the time, training and the ability to jump through LOTS of hoops, a good laser can make for and incredible show. __________________ Jay ******* Hitman Entertainment |

O.K., don't just take my word or anybody elses....go to: www.fda.gov Input : laser light shows - in the search Find title: Consumer and Business Radiological Products Then click on the PDF file: Laser Light Show Safety: Who's Responsible I just spent a good time of researching on lasers, very educational. Through information & education you can make your own decisions if lasers are a good idea. Personally, I'm like boys and our toys....just love getting new equipment, but you always have to ask yourself: Do I really need it? How will a piece of equipment enhance my show? How often will I use it? Will it pay for itself in the long run? I would love to get a laser myself, but in the long run I would not want the liability issue that comes along with it. |

I usually aim them above the dance floor on the ceiling. I very rarely use fog to begin with - most banquet halls don't allow it. |
