I record my shows, I find it very helpful in fixing my mistakes and finding ways to improve our shows..I presently use a Boss1180 digitial recorder comeing off the bbe 462.so what ever the mix was thats what I get..I'm thinking of selling the boss and getting a Roland vs1680.. my question, how can I get the vocal, and the music on seperate tracks while doing the show...I could manage the music with a Y adpt or somthing but how do I get the vocals on a seperate track..????

You'd need to use the subgroups.  There are 4 subgroup outputs that would go into 4 channels of the multi-tracker.  Set your mics to subgroup 1, music to subgroup 3/4.  Now you will have individual vocal & music tracks that you can mix at a later time.

so basicaly you are using the vs between the mic mixer, and the bbe. and putting the music on 2 stereo tracks, and the mics on a mono track. Is this what you are saying?

I was using a boss 532 for the same thing, and I just got the Br-1600...... I plan to use for the same thing.

Well if you wanted to individualize the mics you could pan mic channel 1 to subgroup 1 & mic channel 2 to subgroup 2 otherwise yes run them all to 1 subgroup fader - mics aren't stereo so they don't need to be ran to 2 channels - again unless you want them individualized like for a duet.  Yes the music would take up 2 channels to retain its stereo imaging.  I wouldn't use the BBE in the recording process, it could be used for mixdown on the overall.  I would still use it in the main output insert for the main PA however.

After many experiments with tape decks etc I've evolved to the following ..With a Delta 44 ( 6 out 4 in) the outs of the 266xl are tracked with 3/4 in on seperate tracks.. Using the M-Audio control panel the music is tracked before it leaves the comp.. I do have 1/2 routed from record out on the dfx12 but tracking with full efx sucks.. You want to track dry and apply efx during mix down..  I use Cakewalk Sonar 3 but Home studio would work for most apps.. With Sonar3 you can use the large transport bar with record button etc and dock it with whatever hoster you are using... You do have to initiate seperate files for each singer..

 For continuous recording for whole shows there are recorders avalible to record to mp3 and records only when there is sound input and automatically saves in seperate files (with a time adjust in seconds of silence) but they are limited to 2 tracks. If you have a subgroup prior to efx that would work  Just my 02....

Musicianbuy.com It has only been out a year, and it is a step above the 1180. It had 16 tracks of which you can record 8 tracks simotaneously. It had a good rythm section loop phrases, and vocal correction with harmonies.

I think it is the best bang for the buck, I suggest the dvd manual. it has a lot of features, and Even tho I downloaded and read the manual 2 weeks before I got it, I still learned a lot from the dvd that wasnt in the manual.
