Howdy folks! My wife and I love to karaoke and have decided to build our own system for parties etc. I recently purchased a wireless laptop with dual-video capability, and plan to run everything off that. I already have an existing Denon receiver and Sonance speaker system in the house. Based on the reading I've done here in the forums, I'll post a summary of the components I'm thinking about using, and if you guys could comment that would be great! Karaoke software: MTU Karaoke Hoster * Aside from being free, how does winamp compare? Laptop accessories: Soundblaster MP3 + (to receiver) S-video (to TV) * Anything else? Microphone: Shure SLX wireless * Is it worth the price for receiver/mic combo? * Cheaper wireless alternative? * Anyone know about AKG's WMS 400... has rechargeabale mic etc. Mixer: Mackie's DFX-6? Vocopro? * Really no idea what to get... I think that covers everything, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance for your help!!! |

Is most likely more usable than Winamp because there's a built-in key controller in MTU. There might be key controlling plugins available for Winamp, but I haven't seen any of those. So if you don't mind spending another $100 for that purpose, I really suggest you get that one with all the extra features instead. You'll just go wrong, trust me! AKG could be a could choice, knightshow has some experience on that. Overall, wireless is always a good choice as it gives you more options how to arrange your shows. Yeah, I'd get a compressor limiter too. It makes everything so much easier. You'll know that once you've tried it! jee |

there are key controlling plugins, and they're free. For people's convienience, I've put them on my website. http://www.geocities.com/akaraokelounge There you'll see the "whole file" .zip link. For home usage you don't need to get above the soundblaster mp3 + audigy device. It's only $40 if you shop carefully. Jee, this is for home only, and why would you need more than a good, comfortable usb device to convert the signal to RCA? |

Well, I was going to get mp3+ myself first by Tig's advice (he told he'd got one from you). But there weren't any available since it's an older model. So I got Audigy 2 which is the same but newer. I assume that it's of better quality overall. Personally I'm very interested in getting the best quality, and I'm also thinking of multiple usage there. I have no doubt that mp3+ will be enough though! jee |
