Do any of y'all have experience with any of these speakers? How would you rate them against each other for medium indoor and outdoor gigs?

I know the Carvins sound great.

EAW makes a good speaker, although I find they are overpriced - haven't heard those particular model.

Don't care for B-52 personally. All the ones I have heard are very piercing with no low end definition. Not that could have been the part of the KJ, but i've heard 5 different sets, & heard the same result pretty much on all.

B52 and Carvin both use Eminence speakers so it's all in the crossover to what sets them apart. I would suggest EV SX300s, Mackie S500s, or good 'ol JBL EONs.

Whoever said B52's have no low end definetion is mistaken. B52's are engineered at the crossover to give you higher hig's, and lower lows, and a lesser cut of midrange for DJ use. It wasn't the speakers, it was the persons audio setup.

EAW is the way to go if you dont mind the high price and heavy weight, there the best sounding cabinet for the "semi Pro" user like us.

I've used them all .... yes all. But the best for the price are the EV's The SX300's for (12 and a horn) and the ZX5  (15 and a horn) the crossover are warm in the midrange area great for vocals and low feedback. Hey like they always say you get what you pay for. But what can you afford go listen to a side by side test and judge for your self. Good Luck!!

I've heard B-52 cabs used as part of a PA several times. Medium small venues,  really little place for bass frequency loss, 15's positioned low.  I have to agree with Lonman on this...They were plenty loud, yet I just didn't like their delivery of the bass frequency.  I'm more impressed with Peavey, or Yamaha than that make speaker.  I liked the rugged build of the B-52 cabinets. nothing more


I'm no soundman, nor am I a tech. Yet I will tell you from my own personal experience...(at least for band purposes) medium indoor doesn't compare with "outdoor" venues.  My cabs/heads that will fill even a medium large indoor venue,  often lack the headroom needed for outdoor playing. For outdoor venue's I always went with a better projection cabinet. Usually a folded horn type bass cab.
Depending on the outdoor terrain, it's amazing how sound can get lost.

What type of outdoor conditions ?  

I've been pretty spoiled by having the pleasure of going thru Altec VOT stacks, those cut outdoor fine
