Post subject:  Rotation Question

Should a KJ choose your order of songs if you are signed up for more than one song?
What I mean is, if you are signed up for 2 or more songs how do you feel if the KJ chose which one you do next based on their personal feel of the crowd.

Say you were signed up to sing 'Strawberry Wine' and the last 2 songs were slow ones so, the KJ felt the crowd would prefer 'Suds in a Bucket' instead?  Would you want the kJ to make that choice?

This has happened to us, sometimes the KJ has been correct and sometimes...not so correct!  I personally sing the same warm up song every time...it's just my way of getting comfortable.  I usually save 'Suds in a Bucket' for later in the night when people are a little more loosened up to dance and my voice is a little more prepared for that last note!     When the KJ thinks I should start off with 'Suds', I have done it and hit the note (thankfully :O ) but have had little or no dancers (as i stated in another post, I prefer dancers!)

So, tell me, are you strategic in your choices?  How do you feel when the KJ chooses your order of songs?

Foxy- I thought I would be 'question person' today and give BJC a break ;)

We play them in order received but if a singer changes their mind, no big deal we change to what they want.

Whew.. I was wondering.. Hope BJC didn't get worn out with all those questions the other day ROFL! And how did ya know I'd stop by here anyway? LOL

I understand what you are saying... I've been there too... I usually give the KJ a couple different lists as the night progresses. I start out with one list of songs.. Then when I'm close to done with that list I give him another list about 1/2 ways through the night.. Whatever he picks off of that list that I've given him is fine with me.

This way I am a little more in control of when in the night I sing what song. Just an idea NHOH..

I like the sing one, bring one method. I do take multiple slips up, but I play them in the order requested. However, I have people come up thru the night with a slip and ask to have that one next and stuff... and I understand totally... if it looks like the room is into classics, maybe you want to do something else other than the new rock song you wanted to try out!

Yes... we ask the singer to bring one up to start the night.. and then bring the next choice with them when they are called.  We do have some singers that will give us all 3-4 songs at once... which is okay too.. but I always ask them to put them in the order they want to sing them.  Sometimes... they'll bring a slip up and ask it to be in place of one they've already turned.... and thats cool... as long as their next song isn't cued yet.

Singers should choose the order of their songs, I think.

:D

If I have a song I want to start the night with I either let the KJ know when I turn it in or turn it in alone and then bring up a group later.  I find that if I fill out the one slip and do the group later I'm usually a singer or two earlier in rotation because I didn't wait.  As long as I bring the others up a short time later  I don't get missed in rotation during the second go around.  Keep in mind it all depends on the venue and number of people there.  I tend to sing at places that are slow to start but pick up after an hour or two to a 20-30 deep rotation.

Basically, while I can put the slips in the order I want the kj is running the show and sometimes they get out of order.  As a result, it's up to you insure your 'starter' song comes up first if it's important to you first.

I order my song one at a time, just like the way I order my beer :beermates: ... miss me in the rotation and I pee the KJ off

I have some singers who sing one bring one. Other who bring a stack in the order they want to sing and still others who give me their lips and say you choose. When I get the you choose I will try to mix the music. Else I will just put the next slip in the order up...

We put our songs up on one slip at the begining of the night...usually...unless the KJ opposses...the when in Rome do as the Romans do...

I personally like the one slip list method....I make out the slip before the show starts...the I'm done with it.....plus I like to planin' my evenin'....the order of songs and what I wear...the jokes I will tell...etc....

I usually put all my songs on one slip and let the KJ choose which one I sing next.....I mean it's his show after all......the one thing I've found out is that you don't want to P.O the KJ or you won't get to sing as much....has happened a couple of times....so I let the KJ run the show now.

I really don't care... I give my local kj a list and let him choose...

More often that not tho, we get completely stuffed, cos he'll put up something we never heard of just for a laugh!

Lucky we know him well, huh?

P.Oing a KJ for the above reason is nothing,: report him to the Boss and he lost the job. Worst still the customers may want to sent the Kj to the hospital..... seen many of those.
