How do you feel about dancing at karaoke? Do you like it when people dance while you are singing? Do you think a show should have a mix of karaoke and 'Pre-Recorded' music for dancing? Old Paint and I go to the same, small town venue every Saturday that we can. We have been there often enough over the past 2 years, that now they have our drinks in front of us as soon as we sit down (can you say 'NORM!' LOL )....in any case, sometimes to keep things fun, we have a little quiet contest between the 2 of us to see who can get the most dancers on the floor (he usually wins :( ) I personally prefer to have people dancing...I don't feel as though everyone is staring at me waiting for me to screw up! I have had an occasion or 2 when groups have sat in the crowd and sang along, fun, but I prefer them to dance! A couple years ago we were at a banquet after-karaoke/dance show and people were complaining that they wanted recorded music for dancing. One reason was that the singers werent singing enough dancing songs... and the crowd felt like they couldnt dance when people were performing...they thought it was more polite (but boring) to watch. So, Please share your view with me on these questions! I would love to hear what you all think! |

NOTHING is more flattering when people dig the singing and music enough to dance to it. Even in my little gig... people are dancing next to the pool tables, their bar stools, in the hallway to the bathrooms! ! AND in front of the TV! |

One of my first times singing at karaoke it was sooo nervous.. I get HUGE butterflies!! I sang Crazy (cause it's such a obscure song ) I started singing and I heard people start getting out of their chairs... I'm like huh? They started slow dancing and I felt GREAT about it!!! Put me at ease and made me feel good that they wanted to dance to my singing! |

Absolutely LOVE to have a crowd that dances to the singing. One of my "missions" at our show is to try to sing something "upbeat" and usually... if I have enough of an intro apron... I'll say ... "Come on Folks time move your feet". I agree, its great to see people dancing. I think it defintely adds to the show. As for "dance music" ....... well if its a Karaoke gig.... unless its the "filler" music played between singers, I think the music should come from the Karaoke singers. If its a KJ/DJ combo.... of course.... you should play good dance songs dispersed throughout the show, both slow and upbeat. :dancin: :dancin: :dancin: :dancin: |

Good subject Never. I LOVE when there is a dance floor for people to get up & dance. It DOES make you feel less like you're being "stared at". I always feel self concious when I'm singing, and I hate people just "looking at me" when I'm singing. I usually stare at the k screen so I don't have to look back at them. So, when there is a dance floor- problem solved- they're too busy doing what they're doing to stare at you. (And those sitting can't see you for the dancers, haha) And- I LOVE to line dance, so it makes my waiting time go faster if I can be up dancing to songs too, rather than sitting through all of them. Even a song sung horribly can be fun if it's got a good beat and you can boot scoot to it or something. The local venue I go to does not have one, and that makes me not really care for the place. And- the screen is over the other side of the bar, so to face it, I'm looking towards everyone anyhow. |

People dancing to your singing is complement to your singing ableity We don't see people dancing to off key performance. |

I had my first people get up and dance a few months ago when I was singing "My Baby Loves Me" by Martina.. that song will always hold a special place cuz that was an AWESOME feeling. It was like the 5th song I'd sung that night and every song after that I sang they were up there with me.. It was so cool! I think it's great if people dance to the karaoke... BUT... I get annoyed when there's a nice sized rotation and then out of the blue the KJ throws on some club dance song like Chicken Dance or Macarena... It's wrong I tell ya-- just WRONG LOL |

I agree--dance music shouldn't be part of a large rotation and if there are requests for dance songs, the KJ should see what he/she can do out of the songs that people have put in. That would be a legitimate reason to do a few songs out of order in a rotation. Even those who have to wait a song or two longer shouldn't be mad because their song in the next rotation could come around a little faster...since the people sang their fast songs in this rotation to please the non-singing public and the singers who do want to get up and dance. If people get miffed about the rotation changing a bit even after the explanation, then the KJ only has one alternative: play a couple of dance songs. Non-singers are paying a bar tab, too, and you don't want to alienate them, either. It's more fun to sing to an audience. It's hard to please everyone 100% of the time, but I think most KJs and DJs DO try! |

If the show is billed as dance music and karaoke then dance music should be a part of the show. We have a couple shows around here that are like that. They advertised dance music discuss putting in request for dance music during the show and play it when they get some requests. If the show is advertised as karaoke and they suddenly break out into dance music I may or may not stay. A 'special reason' song - 50th anniversary, etc to showcase a birthday or other special event might be ok, but not over and over through the night. Even if it's not advertised as dance/karaoke if the KJ announces that they're taking dance music through the night I don't have a problem with it. Just be up front and don't try to hide a dance set in your karaoke show because you really want to be DJ'ing and not KJ'ing. |

Well for me this is an easy answer... As an entertainer I welcome people dancing.. I am also selective in the karaoke places I frequent.. I have been to places where there are long lines of people waiting to sing and those aren't for me.. I tend to go places where it is more of a show setting and the quality of the performers is stronger.. These places attract not only good singers but a large crowd of people who like to listen and dance... They have theme nights and special shows and various artists and groups come from all over to participate.... As for other places I think it is up to the individual to decide what he or she is looking for and then frequent the places that offer that..... |

I prefer it when people dance. It makese me feel like they really enjoy my singing....as for the dance music I've been to a couple of venues that play dance music and more people dance to karaoke than the dance music.....but the KJ still insists on playing dance music......go figure. |

Hey, better then dancing then me. I have no britney spears moves that I wanna show...or at least in public. Dancing is welcome...although... One time i was doing a gig and singing the song, "No place that far." Vince gill and sarah evans...anyway, my friends got on the dance floor with the couples and did the chicken dance in slow motion. I wanted to beat them with the mic...although it also was the day before my birthday....and they were serving alot of alchol...okay...i am gonna blame the Molson company for this....ignore me |

I don't mind at all if people dance during karaoke singing. I only care if the KJ plays dance music in-between that slows down the karaoke. |

I just thought i would share this story as it happened to me this weekend past at a gig. I was singing a song called "Let Me Go" By Three doors down, the band had just learned to play it so we did it and got a good amount of positive feedback on it....anyway...so while i am singing the song, people start to dance, thats great....but there was this one couple, and oh my god! :hi5: They are dancing like crazy, having a great time, but it was like big bird meets dopey from the seven dwarfs. They were dancing so weird....picture elain from Seinfeld okay, thats how bad it was...they looked like they were taking some kind of shock to their systems. Although, i kept my voice strong and didn't laugh....lets just say we had a good chuckle about it back stage after. Everyone saw it... So notice to everyone, if your gonna dance, thats kool....just make sure you can dance.....please....PLEASE! |
