Alison Krauss is from Champaign, as am I. She was a year behind me in school and I didn't know her but she did go to the same junior high and high school that I did. Her older brother Victor was a classmate of mine, and we had a mutual friend and met a couple of times. Of course this was long before Alison became famous.

It's funny now that she's so successful because when she was younger she was really kind of a homely kid. Both she and her brother demonstrated musical talent at a very young age, though.

Okay, so that's not really very close to fame at all. But it's the best I can do.

I remember seeing Melissa Etheridge in some Jazz bars in Kansas City, before she hit it big. I knew then she was a star, and told her so one night.

I spent an evening last fall with Dusty Hill of ZZTop. He was in my area hunting and we are friends with the guy who brought him here. He was really down to earth and very nice.

I have NO claim to fame...... waddya mean, as close as we've ever gotten to a real famous person??

Met Skip Ewing once at the Ryman Auditorium, I was there and he was filming a special for CMT. (for those who don't know of him, he is a professional writer, he wrote many Garth Brooks songs, and Bryan White songs. ) He was a really nice guy, just got to visit with him a bit.

That would be it for me..... I really have no "claim to fame" at all..... I am gonna follow this thread tho- this will be interesting.

my hubby used to jam with quite a few 'famous' folk in the 'old days' in San Francisco... but maybe he'll see this thread & comment himself.

While I lived in South Africa in the early 80's I was the guitarist and one of the vocalists in a club called Zillertal (Pretoria). This club was owned by Rita Davis and Clive Bruce, a then famous South African country singer.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights would be a normal live dance gig for us but Sunday nights we were the supporting band for people like Gene Rockwell, Barbara Ray, Sally Vaughn and Clive Bruce. Really cool because this show was aired every Sunday on national television. I played there for about 4 years.

Maybe not big here in the USA, but truly big names in the South African country circles.

My always favourite artist to back-up for was Gene Rockwell. The hit that made Gene Rockwell, "Heart" charted #1 in 1964, then "Heart" a true country song, actually topped the International Charts - Best of 1964

I will always have fond memories of Gene. Sadly he is no longer with us. He died on the 3rd of July 1998.

When I was about 12 I was runnin' down a set of backstage steps at a concert tring to get Lynn Anderson's autograph.....when quite unexpectedly I ran into Hank Snow.....not hi how you doing but actually a physical collission....he fell...his gitar flew and i fell on top of him....talk about a brush with fame....

I had drinks with Ed Asner...in 1988....

I know Rick from the Kentucky Headhunters...not enough to say we're pals but enough that we recognise each other...

but alas I have no fame...missed it once...but I told that story on another thread...

8) Well I did worked with Ron Bushy the drummer of Iron Butterfly remember the classic "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" song. Well he was in sales at the same time when I was a Tool Tech. for Makita Power tools in L.A. back in 1993. Ron Bushy reunited with Lee Dorman (bassist) Doug Bossi (Keyboards) they were three of the original members alone with new members they reunited in 1994 and did some live performances in L.A.
I was happy to have attended some of their concert and to have been invited backstage to meet them all. I lost touch with Ron Bushy after I moved to Hawaii and I don't know what ever happen to them. My other encounter that was close to fame was when I lived in Hollywood back in the 80's when I got involve in the music scene but was discourage after the drugs got the best of my misician freinds. Well after this flash back
am going to sub "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" which was originally named "In The Garden Of Eden" but that is another story. 8)

I partied with "The Fabulous Thunderbirds" in Austin, TX, at their celebration party when they got signed, and their single "Tough Enuff" was being passed around the radio stations, and MTV.

What happened is, I was in the Air Force at the time, but I was working PART Time for Godfather's Pizza. Well, they called the manager fifteen mins to closing, and asked (begged) to have thirty pizzas delivered to them.

As we'd been dead most of the night, the manager freaked, as we had little product mixed. (Godfathers at that time used a rising dough for it's regular pies)... so he threw in a batch with hot water to make it activate real quick, and we mixed it up. The two of us busted our butts to get the pies made, and then I drove them over. I lugged these suckers up three flights of stairs (I just made one trip with ten pizzas... made some guys from the party to carry up the others.)

They paid me $400 for the $320 order (we gave them a discount on the pizzas), and as I was leaving... the manager grabbed my shoulder and twisted me around.

ALMOST ALL of the thirty pizzas were GONE... he asked me if he could do the order again. I told him that we were closed down, but I'd call my boss...

I had signed out on the time clock, and I was going to give the manager the money the next day... what we did was they paid me in advance (I offered to give them my driver's licence so I'd be "trustworthy", but he was really kewl about the whole thing), the manager put on ANOTHER quick rising batch (we hated doing this cause the crust doesn't taste or chew the same at ALL), and I boogied back to the store, pounding on the back door.

He let me in, and I was able to finish making the pizzas with him. I gave him the money for the order, he gave me my commission, and I took the new pizzas to the club. Again, they helped me with the order up the stairs... and as I was leaving, the lead singer asked if I wanted to help finish off the pizzas... he handed me a beer, and I stayed and partied with them.

My tips for the night... $323...

Now, I didn't know who they were, other than that they got signed... imagine my surprise months later when I saw their video! LOL!
