I have been on this forum for about a year..... Some of you might recall the issues I had where someone said I wouldnt last.... Well a year later...six systems 13 weekly shows 5 dj/kj's ...weddings, parties, and a GAME SHOW MANIA business all in an area of montana that is less than prob 100,000 people in a 50 mile radius....not bragging just hard hard hard work. PS IM BUTT TIRED ALOT I need some advice.... The shows that I personally do have ranged from good nights to wondering where all the people are... Currently 3 of my personal shows have huge crowds for this area....Rotation at 9pm start is 10-12 singers and quickly swells to 20-30 plus Well of course you see the dilema....I beleive in being fair and nice to all so....most end up singing 1 or 2 times only.....Well I talk wiht my crowd both persoanlly and over the mic... they like the fact that I am fair and occasionally throw a good dance tune to bring energy back up....( when busy maybe 3-4 per night) but recently they stay only a little while and then prepare to leave....When I go to them to say goodbye and thanks for supporting me they all say the same thing....We are gonna go to a place where we can sing more....we hope you understand....well I do and I dont in the regards of thats why we exist to give people an outlet....but they say your sound is the best song selection second to none and yet they settle for less to sing more.....MY dilema then is what happens when the obvious ebb and flow hits and my huge crowd is reduced to a point of what it was when I was working me arse off to grow it.... What do I do now to help myself?? Rotations ROTATIONS ROTATIONS....I am friendly to all and treat all the same but its gonna bite me I know it Any advice??? Wish I lived in a town of 100,000 25 shows a week NO PROBLEM |

Welcome to the KJ world. Yes it does at times go up and down. People do leave to go somewhere to sing more but ultimately if you have a good system, good selection, and fair roation, they will come back. Unfortunately it happens to most of us, a victim of our own success. It's normal ebb and flow. |

I would rather be able to get up and sing a few times someplace slower with lesser sound then have to wait 2 hours to sing one song. I'm sorry. It's a bit of a catch 22. |

I'm sorry. It's a bit of a catch 22. I have to agree here. There is a place in Lynnwood, Washington has a great sound system, great host, great crowd, but typically 30 plus singers. You're lucky to get two songs -- so I just don't go there anymore. I'm there to sing, not to hang out. When I'm a singer, the perfect rotation is like 6 to 10 people. When I'm on the other side of the mixing board the perfect rotation is around 20. When you have thirty it's great from a KJ stand point but singers leave. |

I'm not sure what you mean to help yourself... Assuming the singers are also patronizing the bar, a long wait would probably equate to a good ring, I'd think - and thus, a good night for the bar, which is important. A busy night, lots of singers, that's a good thing. If you've helped build up business, then maybe your value has also increa$ed. For those that don't want the wait, there's always other places. If you refer anyone not being happy about the wait to other venues (which I've done), just do it low-key. |

I would personally LOVE to attend a karaoke show that has a big crowd, fun atmosphere, and a fair rotation, even if it meant I only got to sing 1 or 2 times all night. If I'm sitting back, having a great time with my friends, and also enjoying the other singers, I really wouldn't mind how long the wait is. As a fellow K.J., I've seen your situation before, and as long you run a fun and fair show the crowd will keep coming back! I looove to sing, but I'd pick a great atmosphere over singing a bunch of times in a heartbeat! |

I guess it depends on how often you go out and sing. Speaking for myself, I probably sing 3 or 4 times a week at different places, some busy, some not. I definately have my favourite and it's not necessarily the shortest rotation, but I just love the atmosphere and the KJ is just great. I know some people get agitated by not being able to sing lots, but what can you do ? Sounds like you've built up a good business there, they'll all be back !!! Lady Di
