Has anyone else encounter other karaoke hosts visiting your show and then pointing out every flaw for the purpose of making themselves sound superior?
Wow just the other night I did a show at an out of town bar. KJ calls up his next singer (A former karaoke host) Right off the bat she...
1) Immediately tells the KJ to turn her mic up. 2) Purposely points the mic directly towards one of the main speakers. 3) Announces to everyone about echo, echo, echo before her song even starts. 4) After her song was finished she went outside for a cigarette with her friend (Not noticing who I was) starts the stupid talk about the KJ and how she's better and how he is using the house speakers rather than bringing in his own.
I asked her... 1) Did you sound good up there? She replied yes. 2) Did you not notice you were pointing your mic directly at one of the speakers? She replied no because the house speakers were far away from the stage area. (She did not see the BOSE array there just behind her in the corner) 3) I asked her if she was a karaoke host and how long she has been doing it. She replied 5 years but yet she has no clue as to how to use a mixing board and FX. 4) Cupping the mic clearly defined the quality of her experience as a karaoke host.
Anyway, Long story short, if you're a kj attending another kj's gig show support and put aside the ego.

i love other hosts at my show. never had them point out flaws, but have had them ask me how i do X,Y,Z... Much like i'm sure Lonnie has... end up giving them little tips here and there as they ask for them.

When this goes good, it's great. But when it goes bad, it's the worst. At least that's my experiences are with other KJs attending my shows.

This is also getting very stupid with those Internet KJ's. A little while back there was another kj went up on stage and purposely acted like a dumba$$ followed by complaining to the bar owner and trying to steal our gig.
I haven't seen him since but I'll bet he does this to a few others.

We here in SoCal have a rather interesting community amongst Karaoke hosts. We love to visit each other's shows and have a great time.
There are several KJs in the area which have attempted and continue to steal shows. However, we explain to them what is acceptable and what is not. If they do not change, these "outsiders" are not really welcomed due to their actions.
For the most part, we welcome other KJs to our shows.

Yeah, I have a few hosts show up at my shows on a regular basis. They are nice people and enjoy singing on my equipment because it makes them sound good. I've had my encounters with the know-it-all kj's who run their mouths and try to critique my show but pretty much just ignore them. They aren't local and are usually down here on vacation. It comes with the territory, I guess.

I have also had other KJ's whom I know at my shows. I've gone to theirs too. They really can't complain about anything since I know that my equipment and sound blows what they're using away.

I have all the work I want, and other KJs in the area know it. I've helped others get gigs, loaned them equipment in an emergency, and welcomed them when they visit my shows, just as they welcome me when I visit theirs. I treat them not as competition, but as colleagues. If I see they may have copied any of my procedures, I consider it a compliment.
