Hi everyone!
My name is Mike,I'm from the midwest and i Love to sing I came to your site after doing a search and it looks like a real nice and friendly place.
I had some questions on a system i am considering.At the moment i have a jvc22 something player.It's hooked up currently to my home stereo surround system.(a yamaha receiver).
While to me the sound seems ok,i want something better and i heard that i'm going to destroy my stereo speakers if i keep running my karaoke system through them.I likes it Loud! So i'm ready for the next step.
I'm remodeling my basement and want to set up a little karaoke center.this frees up my system upstairs and gives me a place where i can just walk up to anytime and sing.I have quite a few friends over for karaoke parties quite often,so i really want it to sound good and as professional as possible.
I am reading a magazine that lists a Yamaha system,it's a whole set up and includes, Emx66m 600w 6 channel mixer 3 band mono channel eq,dual 7 band graphic eq,8 digital effects,2 aux sends(monitor and effect)
And it comes with 2 S115VClub speakers,15 inch driver,2 inch tweeter,Speaker stands,Cables and 4 mics.lists for $1100.00

Question 1,how would you rate this system?
Qestion 2,would i need a seperate amp like a stereo receiver?
Question 3,i see alot of talk about Monitor Speakers,what is this and is it something i should consider?
Question 4, do i need anything else?

for home use, a monitor speaker isn't needed.

What they are are the speakers on the stage so the performer can hear their own voice. With most setups, the speakers are set up from the sides to project to the best sound area. And that's out to the audience.

PLEASE forgive how crude this illustration is, but it does serve the purpose.

The regular speakers are those in red (and with a larger audience, they'd be even MORE spread out, and possibly more than just the two speakers!), and the monitors are the weird blue ones!

So for home use, monitor speakers would be ridiculous. Any speakers that are set up for "live mic" are just fine for that.

So yes, you can't use your "home speakers" for long without destroying them, because the bass woofer isn't designed for the stress of live mic work. Unless it was rated for that initially. Most home speakers aren't.

as for your system, I have no experience with it.

I just stick with what I know.

I have some locally built subzero speakers (pioneer woofers and tweeters installed in a custom case), and yes, there is a difference between the woofer that was going to come with that set, and what I had installed. The tech who owns the studio was kind enough to educate me.

Answer 1. For home use & even some smaller clubs, this system will kick (@$%&#!)! The speakers are very nice sounding & the mixer/amp is more than ample for home use. You can also hook up a tape deck (or cd recorder) to to record yourself live.
Answer 2. You won't need any other amp as the mixer is also the amp.
Answer 3. No monitors needed in a home system.
Answer 4. Most likely nothing else will be needed.

I stored my system in a friends big unfinished basement for awhile. Had 2 or 3 that wanted to record so I setup in the basement. It had the most awesome natural reverb and with efx really rocked.Dont need monitor or much efx for that matter. In fact we couldnt stand next to the wall or we would get feedback off the wall. Not there anymore but if it was permanent I'd hang carpet on certain walls and fine tune the acoustics. I did get some awesome recordings there...
