When smoking used to be allowed in bars did you put a table with an ashtray close to the stage or did singers just hold their cigarettes?

Did the smokers have enough time during instrumentals to have a puff and quickly exhale or did they exhale while singing the next verse?

We are still in a smoking bar (in a non-smoking state ). Yes I have an ashtray off to the side of the stage for singers to use. Yes they sometimes have enough time to take a drag or two during instrumentals.

I never owned one, but I always loved those tv monitor stands with the built-in cup holder and ashtray. The first thousand songs I ever sang in karaoke were all with cigarette in hand. I'd have surely bought one of those stands for my own shows, but my state's bars went no-smoking right after I became a host. And one of the reasons I became a host is because I missed smoking on the job. Boy did my timing suck
