Post subject: | Quck Question On a USB Port |
I have an HP Laptop I bought Last January 2.5gigmhz 500mbRam the problem I have is I just Bought a new 160 Gig external hard drive with USB 2 and when I hook it up to my lap top my lap top says the drive will run quicker when connected to a usb2 port ...however my Lap top then says there is no high speed USB port on my lap top. so my problem is a real slow drive... Question is >>> How can I get my Hard drive to run as fast as possible without opening My lap top (and possibly hetting my Hair caught in the fan.) Is there an adapter I can get to make it work ? Thanks for your help Michael |

quickfix is to run windows update and make sure you are up-to-date (not necessarily SP2)... if you have the laptop setup CD, it should have all the drivers for your hardware on it- make sure the USB drivers are installed... if you do not have the laptop setup disk then try http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and put the laptop information in there and see if the manufacturer has any updated drivers for your USB controller or connection. You may even go to the HP site and check for updated drivers even if you have the laptop setup disk... good luck- tig |

You can also get yourself a USB 2.0 Cardbus Adapter that slides into your laptop, around $35.- The DUB-C2 is a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 2-port CardBus adapter that upgrades notebook computers to the new and faster USB standard. This card is designed to work with mice, keyboards, external CD-R/RW's, external hard drives, PC cameras, and all other USB enabled devices. It is 40 times faster than previous USB adapters and 20% faster than Firewire (IEEE-1394). Each of the two USB 2.0 ports transfers data at 480Mbps (Megabits per second), making it ideal for external storage, backup, networking and digital video. The DUB-C2 is compatible with USB 2.0 standards and is backward compatible with USB 1.0 and USB 1.1 products. This gives you the ability to connect all of your USB 1.x devices to the DUB-C2 USB 2.0 adapter and they will work. Each port detects whether the connected device is USB 1.x or USB 2.0 and automatically runs the device at the correct speed. The DUB-C2 supports Plug-and-Play installation which makes the DUB-C2 easy to install. http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... pfp=BROWSE |
