I can tell how much hard work you have put into your sub, it's appreciated and was a pleasure to hear you.
your voice has a lovely tone
your voice is soothing
what a real fun song, you got me tapping my fingers and toes.
oh yeahhh groovy!
and the list goes on and on and on....you don't have to say the SAME things over and over again

I think i say the same things over and over.... but.. i don't MEAN to! Lol, it is a good thing i almost NEVER listen, and everything gets nicely spaced out, so you can't tell that I do that..... I mean, if you were to look at my comment page, it would be glaringly obvious, that I only comment to flirt with the other singers......
Question though.... IS it acceptable to simply say "good" or, "good job" etc... like, a one word comment? (at least you know they LISTENED i figure, like, I am happy with a "hey", but i do know that it apparently annoys some people.) NOt that anywone can expect a ONE word comment from ME.... Anyways, just curious... I m a nosy one.
By the way, your suggestions were helpful, I put them on a sticky on my desktop (on macs, you have sticky notes, that LOOK like stickies.. oh , never mind)... that way, when I listen, i can simply copy and paste:) .

a bit of perspective -- at least the way things are in my world.....
i have no formal voice training, i'm not a professional singer or musician -- i just have one hell of alot of fun making music. in addition to knowing my own limitations, on top of that, i don't have the best equipment, especially since i use some fairly inexpensive headphones. having said that, i do have my own standards for what i can be satisfied with whenever i record and post something here. i know where my mistakes are--sometimes i don't even hear them unless i burn a cd and play a song in my car (where i spend alot of time during the day--my car's sound system is much better than my computer speakers and headphones).
point being, i think that alot of us are doing this for the fun of it. maybe we don't all have the greatest equipment, and maybe some of us don't have the time to make a sub perfect before we post it, but we all have some pride in what we're doing, as we all rightfully should. i have no doubt that anyone who really knows what they're doing could pick my best subs to shreds, but they really don't need to--i'm not interested in trying out for any "idol" competitions or looking for a recording contract. i'll just repeat that i'm just having a hell of alot of fun.
the word "fluff" seems to have a conotation that demeans the effort and talent that someone puts into recording a song. would some of you please understand that while they ain't perfect, there are so many subs here are are pretty darn good, even if the artist isn't interested in a detailed critique?
my last point is that i couldn't agree more with the previous comments on this thread....

Disclaimer: for those of you with weak hearts or are easily spooked, please do not read the following comment from me:
personally, I feel that "Just for Fun" songs should be the place for positive comments only... I know, I know- total shock if you can't listen to a "just for fun" sub and resist the temptation to correct them in any way, shape or form then just pass over those songs when ya surf the SS for stuff to listen too... just because a person could use a little(or alot) improvement doesn't mean that you need to give them any critiques on a "just for fun" song... there have been a handful of lists containing acceptable responses on a "just for fun" song so if you can't think of something to say, other than a critique (of ANY kind), then feel free to grab one of those to fulfill your need to comment... "just for fun" subs should have just for fun comments... just a thought, your mileage may vary...- tig

And, I agree with everything Tim has said. I record ONLY for fun.
I will NEVER pursue singing professionally. Lol, i even laugh to think about it.. and I am NOT trying to demean everyones nice comments about me.. I just.. don't see myself as a vocalist:) Lol, or rather, I don't hear it;) I consider everything I have ever submitted as being recorded "just for fun"... but, um... doesn't EVERYONE?! If you don't... then, why the heck are you recording!? I ONLY do things that are fun. The minute it isn't, i stop. (yes, I know, I am like a toddler:) I ONLY SING because i can't play my other intsruments living in an apt. It was like.. my last resort to still being involved in music.
I also record with no equipment. dollar store bud headphones, and no microphone. Just, me and my ibook. The end... but, i enjoy being able to overcome those obstacles and make things sound pretty good considering.
I actually submitted something TWICE so far in the critique category.... scared the hell out of me....but.. you were all NICE....
OK, i know, this was rambling... but, i do take offense to fluff comments... as i am ALWAYS nice.. that is how i was taught to be.... and, if I dn't have somethign nice to say, i don't say anything at all.... critiques CAN be said in a nice manner... but, overall, some people are just NOT open to admitting it wasn't perfect... (or they aren't), and no matter HOW you say it, they will become defensive. (I have read this a few times... that attitude towards a critique.. or, a barage of.. excuses... and it comes a lot from the young, trying nto pursue a career singers.. etc)
Ok. done babbling. I am sick, and in bed, and I had nothing to do.

and those that NEVER ask for critique and get it anyways? shrugs.
gilly i also agree with regards to the fluff thingy...but in the real world i actually describe myself as fluffy, i have a passion for fluffy slippers, pref bright pink ones ...anyways waffling on hehehe...fluff doesn't worry me, i do however take offence to being referred to as dishonest, insincere etc because i have refused so much to give honest critique.
I believe i can if i wished give honest critique and done in a pleasent manner, but i really do feel uncomfortable, and so do i think some of these honest critiquers feel uncomfortable especially when it comes to giving critique on their friends subs, cause in all honesty ive laughed at the "fluff" and kissing butt that goes into those comments on their mates subs...so much for honest critique eh or perhaps they are just frightened of being out in the big wide world of SS alone...who knows personally it looks like kissing butt and being a tad hypocritical.
TP you talk perfect sense..respect to you
Tigr you do suprise me sometimes

Missy I do appreciate your critique, though, to me recently...I know you say you don't really like to, but you did help me.

well i did owe you that much tigger i actually never commented on your ozzy and lita duet...because it was after i decided to cancel membership and just stick around as and when till my current one run's out but i did actually think to myself....she has found her niche there, although your voice is excellent for country...you sang your solo's in that sub marvelous...if i had to choose which vocals were better...lita wins
tigger your hard on yourself too much, believe me other than what i pointed out in the critique there is not a lot wrong...head up girlie and keep going!

WOW
Now that is a great encouragement! I never expected that, which makes it that much better. I am hard on myself, true. I appreciate those encouraging words more than you could ever know.

The most logical thing to do, is simply respond with something to the effect "I did not ask for a critique on this and I do not want one".
And then perhaps ask Phill to remove the offensive comment, unless of course the comment is by EMAIL in which case the above statement as a reply (or something similar) should put an end to the problem.
