Sound Choice. The Millenium is a decent set (except for the pan flute melody guide in most of the songs) for the money, but overall the Sound Choice set is my favorite.

Ok, to be entirely honest, in a crowded bar you'll never hear the pan flute. In a quieter bar or practicing at home the flute is damned annoying!
I'd go with the Sound Choice. I like the quality far better and NO FLUTE!

I love to PLAY the flute....( 35 + yrs. of experience...folk groups, orchestras, concert bands, just for fun jamming)
......but I agree.. it is BEYOND ANNOYING on a CDG.
I vote for SC .... would love to be exclusively SC... if money allowed. ALWAYS the best quality for the $ .. IMO.

<----- played the flute, then hung it on her wall for decoration.
I agree about the pan flute guide. It is rather annoying. However, I have to admit it actually taught me something: I'm generally a soft-voiced singer (been told my voice is "breathy") and I used to not sing very loud. People would tell me I should sing a little louder so they could hear me better. After practicing at home sometimes with the DK or the DKG discs, I discovered that in order to hear myself over the pan flute I needed to elevate my voice quite a bit. After messing with those discs enough and growing more comfortable with singing louder... I now sing the same way regardless of what disc/track I am using. Haven't been told I'm too soft anymore. Well, except for the SGB discs, which I am not fond of either. Some of the backing music on those is SOOOO loud you have to practically yell to hear yourself.

(I bought a Sterling silver open-hole Gmeindhardt flute that I still own in 1984... I think it might be M-1 model. I payed $20 for it, I was hanging out in a music store, and some girl who we figured obviously wanted pot money tried selling it to the store. They refused to buy it for many reasons. Yet of course being the nice guy I am (pinging halo), I went outside into the parking lot when she left. Wrote a check for it, wrote out a quick bill of sale with the serial number, and had her sign it because I was afraid it might be stolen. This girl was 18 so she was old enough to sell it I suppose. I wonder if her parents ended up killing her ?)
Sorry, I know this is off-topic yet I sort've slipped up
I also play sax, and flute
(I'd tell you about the 1930's Conn "Lady on the bell" Alto sax I bought at a garage sale years ago, yet I know I probably shouldn't...ducking)
On topic save: Saxophone is VERY loud, not like a flute
.48 per song sounds quite good. Is this a download type site ? Do you have to get 1700 songs in order to get a per song rate that low ? I know on many Karaoke songs, the vocal melody line is gone, yet you hear this device replacing the melody line. It really sounds awful. Like a midi device replacing the vocalist. Is that the "pan flute" ? Reminds me of the old "sing along with mitch" show, and follow the bouncing ball. Quite tacky

I would disagree with the ALWAYS part. On rare occasion they don't get it right or another company does it better - I like All Hits version of You Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC) over SC. But they are the most consistant sound & quality over anything else. You can pretty much know what you are getting without having to hear it.

I have a couple tracks that I prefer over Sound Choice, but these are the exceptions....
I consider Sound Choice in the same category as O'Reilly technical books. If you need it and can't review it beforehand it's the book to buy because the quality of coverage is top notch. I don't have any 'bad' Sound Choice tracks (or 'bad' O'Reilly books), but I have a few 'other' tracks that are closer to the original than Sound Choice (and a few technical books that are more thorough). The timing on the AllHits 'What A Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong is better - but the music is marginally better on Sound Choice...
If you're not a geek then you won't get the O'Reilly analogy... if you are then you know EXACTLY what I mean.

Based on economics and sound DK gives more bang for the buck, plus they have songs SC doesn't have and songs no longer available. As for "the Flute" when you're running a show, unless you're listening for it, you won't notice it. Further it is not on every song.

I don't think anyone said that the flute were on all the songs. However another downside to the DK set is DK had the idea in mind that they should automatically change the keys of some of the higher songs because they felt it would be easier. This happened more often with DK than any other set.
The SC set has songs that aren't available on the DK as well.

Depends on your budget. The DK set is very respectable and you won't get complaints from singers. The SC sets have the added bonuses of timing marks and no pan flute.
The pan flute on the DK isn't bad, At least on my setup.

Good point Lonman ... ALMOST always.. would have been better way to say that!
You are right... there are a few SC cuts that aren't up to "typical" quality (recent memory of 1 Christmas song that was pretty bad.. ).
But..... if I had to buy ONE SET of discs...... I still stand by SC.. as my first choice, money allowing

I'd take the SC route... but that's me.
Now if we were talking the old DK 1-99, maybe that's different. There were some differences in the original dk vs the Millinieum set,....

Main differences were that they lost licensing for many of the original 99 set & put what was left in the Millenium set plus some of the newer songs that they were doing.
I would still go SC too though.

The DK set is somewhat of an enigma as well as some of the SC collection in the respect of licensing.
I look at it this way,
Go to store Buy Item Item is in full view Item is what you need\ You pay your money
Now you are at the mercy of a seller who's behavior you can't control. This is certainly a dillemma

Jam, Yeah but what If you bought Foundation 1&2 for a total of 820 and then added the Bricks?
I use the DK millenium and the SC Foundation 1&2 and the 5 Bricks together, Its an awesome base set.
The SC Foundation #2 set has so many well sung songs that are not on DK.
