Post subject:  Looking for your input!

First of all, hello to all.

Generally I came to this forum because I want suggestions from others and was hoping you guys/gals can give me your input.

I have cdg and matching mp3 files on my computer. I would like to be able to use my computer (for home use) to play karaoke using these files should company come over and want to have fun singing.

I am running XP Pro and want to know what program(s) you think I should look into to do this.

I am generally wanting to play the files I have, not really looking to create new ones.

Take Care.

Easiest solution is:

Winamp and the cdg plugin. Add pacemaker plugin if you need to change key.

Thank you, karaokemeister!

Got WinAmp and the plugins and it works great!
Exactly what I was looking for.

Now, if I can only learn to sing without scaring my cat!

You can sing. Everyone can sing -- the limitation is not in the vocal perform (to an EXTENT) but in the equipment and how well the person is running that equipment. Case in point, Ashlee Simpson is a great STUDIO performer. She's proven, TWICE now that she can't sing in public as a live performer. DigiTech makes a great product that I use that allows me not only to add reverb, which helps, but adjust the key, voice double (a common trick in studio recording to strengthen the voice) or even layer that double (or triple) in a harmonizing key higher or lower.

A lot for a new person with a laptop to absorb. But my point is you probably sing better than you think, and even if you sing "bad" enough to scare your cat, there are some great Karaoke hosts with some great equipment out there that could make you sound...

...well as good as Ashlee Simpson in a recording session (not at the Orange Bowl).

Oh I know my singing is terrible but when it comes to Karaoke, I see it all in fun.

I actually wasn't into Karaoke in the past as it was seen as something the girls got together to do while the guys went elsewhere but over the past couple of months (and the right friends) it has been a blast, even if I am the Karaoke wallflower.

Mind you, after getting into it, a couple of beer to loosen up (not to the point of being a drinken idiot) I have actually hit the stage.
