Post subject:  i need a little CEP help please :)
k...i put mi backing track in track 1

recording mi vocals (if thats what ya call em ) in track 2

after i recorded and play it back....ermmmmm, im never on time with the backing track...well...i mean...im on time when i sing it...but when i play it back it like moves.....hard to explain....anyone know how to fix this problem....it does'nt happen on all my backing tracks....just a couple for some reason...and it always seems to be the ones i really really want to do

somebody please help this little bug

Well... when you start to record, are you making sure you start all the way to the left of the track? (In other words, press the <| button first to set the marker all the way to the left). This shouldn't make a difference unless you're pulling your track into the multi-track AFTER you've recorded, but it's something to check on.

When you look at the wave signatures as you record, are they lined up where they should be for the backing track? Do they somehow become unaligned when you play it? (it should be something you could see if that happens) If you have your stuff in mp3 format (wave would be too big) I could try to look at it for ya.

BT,

there can two issues for this:

1) non-direct monitoring. Your music comes from the computer to the headphones, and finally you hear it -- some delay involved. You then sing into the mic in time with the delayed music. The vocal is then further delayed as it goes back into the sound card.

2) your soundcard is not sample accurate. I have a recording blog on another site discussing this issue. I may rewrite it for this site. Alternatively look up sample accurate in CEP.

Hey Lee, I actually had the same exact problem, drove me insane! I always had to record in pieces! How I fixed it was... in CEP, in Edit Mode go to Options > Settings

a box should open, now on the bottom left corner, a little above it there should be two options you can check: Correct for Drift in Recording and Correct for Start Sync recording... make sure those are both checked.

Then it should be good to go :) PM me on MSN if you still have questions :)

Kim,

That is exactly the way to deal with a sound card that is not sample accurate, good you remembered the remedy :) . As far as I remember you also have the ability to set latency etc. Again, if you search for sample accurate you should get the whole story.

Hey Morten! Is this the same Morten that I know? :) How are ya? Yeah I know you can set latency, but I'm latency clueless lol, so far those 2 boxes I checked helped me out, so I thought it might help BT out as well :)

Yep the same Morten from NJ!!!

And you are absolutely right that should help him out. I'm going to have to rewrite the stuff I wrote on the other side about recording. As far as I remember there are a few more settings to optimize usage of a non sample accurate sound card.

I also need to re-setup my AA since I changed to an Audition sound card (which to my knowledge is sample accurate).

wooohooo....yep that worked shirls....the only other problem i get now is....every now and then on certain words.... i get a crackly noise....maybe its just me singing too darn loud as usual....lol

What sound card are you using??

SB Live is known to have issues due to bad hardware design. On my SB Live I had to turn off background services: virus protection, firewall, local area network.

Doing that removed all these annoying noises.

This is one of the reasons I just replaced my SB Live with an Audigy 2 value ($50).
