Most (almost all) my singing is performed using my karaoke system. I like the feeling of loud music amplification etc. Is this a good idea or should I practice at much lower levels and then sing unamplified?? Any pro's or con's??? Thanks, Morten |

Any pro's or con's??? Thanks, Morten Morten - IMO the VERY BEST way to practice vocals is with just the naked voice. You can hear yourself better and you can work on improving little things. Then, when you finally do add all the spiffies, you sound MUCH better. |

When I practice, I usually put on headphones and sing to the music. I don't use any eq or effects. Because nearly all my singing is done at karaoke shows it allows me to see how my voice fits the song, see if I need key changes, etc. When I go to a show I know what to expect when I sing a song and know that the natural reverb of the venue and any added effects are likely going to make everything sound even better (well, in most cases). BTW, all my recordings here are done au natural - no effects, eq, etc. Just my voice and the backing track. |

Karaokemeister, if you put headphones on (unless you use a mic) do you hear your voice really well?? My recording headphones are closed and thus I would not be able to get much feedback. Based on your comments I will try practicing to music comming out of my monitors without any amplification of the voice, Au naturel. So perhaps that is what I have done wrong all this time At least I am very used to singing into a mic with tight pickup pattern... Thanks both of you. Morten |

I'm singing into my mic with the headphones are plugged into the mixer. Since most of my 'practice' is testing new songs it helps to be able to adjust the mix so I can bring my music up or down while I adjust the key, etc. |
