karaoke bingo, trivia, cdg giveaways, play a second of mix music and see if people can guess the song, pin the tail on the kj, etc. |

There's a place I go to sometimes that has Kamikaze Karaoke. Don't know if that's the same as Twisted Karaoke or not. With Kamikaze, your table or the KJ picks out any random song from the book and you have to sing it, even if you don't know it. It's quite amusing. |

If I went to a show and they were doing the game thing I would bail out . Games and contests go hand in hand or so it seems. They reek of desperation and silliness. If I tried that stuff at my gigs my singers would'nt stand for it. The only spice you need is a kick (@$%!) system great song selection a KILLER personality and a HUGE following and LOTS of beautiful women. Karaoke 101 brought to you by metalgod of Leather and Lace Entertainment...................... |

I think you are right about the game thing, everytime we tried it never seemed as fun as it should have. I was just looking for some new ideas to try out. As for the beautiful women, this is a Army post with mostly guys, so any beautiful women would be welcomed(talk to your recruters ladies) |

man, I couldn't disagree more! Adding a twist is not one reeking of silliness but of "hey, this is a special night". damn metalgod, you just can't help but diss people by disagreeing, can you? sheesh! |

We often do games to break the monotony. The most important thing I've done is to make game playing optional. I've done games before but they are on slower nights when I don't have a rotation 40 people deep. If we do games on nights that are more popular they are fast games like kamikaze karaoke that don't take away much time from the singing (other than games 'rules',etc). I personally like the occasional game, but don't make it mandatory to sing. If you just want to sing then you can, but I find that most of the patrons actually like the twist to spice things up. We offered shirts, hats and other stuff we get from the liqour distributor as prizes, and we usually have enough to cover most of the game playing people (about 15-20 'prizes'). We even sometimes do a 'the next new person to sing gets a prize' to draw out those that are thinking about singing but haven't signed up yet. There are lots of ways to spice up the show other than just yelling 'Name! You're next!' which I tend to see a lot of after someone's been hosting for a while. This mixes it up and reminds EVERYONE that karaoke is about fun and entertaiment - not about trying to make the auditions for American Idol/Nashville Star/Canadian Idol every time you come to the stage. |

I was going to try something like a "hot potato " game last night, but there was not enough time, and I got real mad at the ones we had in the room, for the first time i almost lost my temper at a group. I had the chairs set up in a circle and i was going to play a song as they pasted a ballon round, i would stop the musice and they would have to pick a song from a jar. Maybe sometime i will try it again. |

Speaking for the majority??? I don't think so, Metalgod. Seems the MAJORITY of the replies to this thread are in favor of some type of "game" or "variety activity", or at least can see why it might work for SOME. Tater... one thing we do every once in a while is a "sing to win"... its really fun and the singers get a kick out of it. We just have a roll of tickets & everytime a singer sings, they get a ticket... At the top of each hour we pull a number from the jar on the desk, and the person with that # wins something. We use it for special occasion nights and its actually alot of fun if not overdone. The prizes are just fun little "trickets".. but the build up is a hoot! For instance... we'll announce that the next "sing to win" winner will get to take home a new musical instrument .... or ..... one of the blondes in the room.... . Of course, what they win is a little Kazoo or a barbie-doll-type doll with blond hair----> but the build up is alot of fun and the singers just LOVE it when we do this! Again... don't over do it.... but every once in a while it can be fun. We don't do Kamakaze Karaoke or what you described (pulling a song out of a jar), but I know shows that do, and again, if not overdone singers seem to enjoy it alot. Good luck with your show. |

Look into the archives and the MAJORITY says nada to contests and games. Infact maybe we should start a new thread on this very subject. Hell no that would be as boring as that lame Song chain thread. And probably as long.........ha ha Happy new year and please NO MORE GAMES/CONTESTS. Theres only one thing worse and thats a pirate multi rigger. No I take that back because pirates can be prosecuted. rokkenroke |

It's so very simple then, if a thread pops up that you don't like, then stay out of them! Obviuosly this thread are for the people who LIKE games & contests. You have stated your side, now drop it. If they are soooo bad for business, let us do them & drive all of our customers to your shows. |

lame song thread? So that's why it's so popular? Sheesh, you're just trying to push buttons now. In the words of Bugs Bunny, "what a maroon!" |
