Yes I use the computer for doing it all...and guess it must be fast enough,,haven't had any problems,,,,,yet.....and hate to admit it,,but I don't even know what a duplexing card is

I got a Behringer Eurorack UB1002 mixer and I have a Creative Audigy Soundblaster Platinum soundcard...I have the XLR cable for mic and I have the connector cables ran from main out on mixer to In on soundcard....Cables on line in (left and right) on mixer to out on soundcard (for headphones) and plug headphones in...Everything works,,,can hear music, vocals...BUT,, when I record on Cool Edit,,,it also records music.....Oh I have the surround mixer set for the Analog mix, line etc etc.....If I don't run headphones through mixer and just plug into front of computer on soundcard...it will record only vocals.....but I know it should work going through mixer.....PLEASEEEE someone..what am I doing wrong???? |

Linda, I don't know if I fully understand your setup, but here goes: To get real time monitoring I insert the music from the computer into two channels (since it is stereo) on the mixer. The mic goes to another channel. If I now listen to a pair of headphones connected to the headphone output of the mixer I hear both music and my voice. If I were to connect the output of the mixer to my pa system I would again hear both music and voice. The job of the mixer is to combine everything you input to it. To record only the vocal I use option 1 below. To be able to record only your vocal in this scenario requires one of the following: 1) direct out from the channel where you connected the mic. 2) monitor out and you can then send only the mic to the monitor out. 3) multiple busses, and you can then send the mic to a separate bus, send that bus to the stereo bus (for monitoring) and connect the output of the separate bus to your computer. The bottom line is if you can hear both music and vocal in the headphones then the main outputs of the mixer will also have both. Hope this helps. Morten |

Linda, Looking at the picture I think you can make it work the following way: 1) Connect FX SEND to the LINE-IN on your sound card 2) Adjust the mic gain so that the red peak light just barely turns on when you sing the loudest. Then back it down just a little. 3) Adjust the level into the computer using the FX knob on the mic channel. You should now be able to mix vocal and music on the mixer, hear it in your headphones, and at the same time only record the vocal to the computer. Morten |

If you are using the computer to Play the Karaoke & also do the recording, it had best be a fast computer, and make sure the soundcard is a duplexing card. |

You mentioned in your first reply,,,that you insert the music from computer into the mixer......I haven't done that...but I still can hear the music,,,whether the mic is plugged into the mixer or the front of computer in soundcard....Only difference is,,when I have mic in mixer, it records music with vocals and if I have it in front of computer in soundcard ,,it will record only vocals..... So,,,do I need to run music from computer into mixer??? Oh and I haven't even gotten to the FX thing yet....still trying to get this other part worked out... thank you so much for replying... Says to me that you send the music from the computer into the mixer. Again, if your headphones are connected to the mixer and you can hear both music and your voice then you are also going to record the music!!! Re-read my last post. I wasn't trying to introduce you to effects. What I was suggesting is that you can get the vocal from the mixer to the sound card _without_ the music by using the FX send. Alternatively, you have to remove the above mentioned connection but then you loose the ability to perform latency free monitoring (i.e. without delay). Hope this is clearer. Morten |

oh, and duplex means that you can play and record at the same time. On old times some sound cards were only half duplex (i.e. either play or record but not at the same time). Morten |
