Post subject: | Sad day for Old Paint |
I know this doesn't have anything to do with karaoke, but so many of you have made such nice comments about OP's horse in his pic's that I thought I would share this with you all. It is a sad day for Old Paint as he lost his 'Old Paint' (Strawberry Roan Quarter Horse Paint Mare) yesterday. "Roanie" was 28 years old and had been OP's companion for the past 16 years. If you have not seen her, she is in the pic on OP's profile page (along with a 6yr old Seanman) and on his avatar pic. (there is also one of her in my album from the 'good old days') She was a Beautiful animal that had taught many young riders in her day. We were very lucky to have her in our life and she will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Ol' Girl! |

I am so sorry for your great loss. I know that everyone is taking this hard and I really feel your pain. It's so hard to lose an animal companion, they bring so much joy into our lives. I certainly will be thinking of you and your family. May you find comfort in the many good memories she's given you. Huggs to you all. Jeanne "Rest in Peace Roanie" |

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. As a 'mom' to 2 dogs and a 'sister' to 2 cats and until last year a dog, I truly feel your pain. I see my Roxy getting older by the day & am pretty sure this will be her last Christmas with us & I have no idea how I will get through it, she's always there for me & is really one of our family. We are special people to be chosen by our animal friends as worthy companions. My sympathies to your family. |

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss... sounds like Roanie had a great life... each animal has such a distinct personality... no two are alike. Hope the memories of her give you some comfort and joy at this difficult time. ~Sheree~ |

Oh, I'm so sorry OP. I know what a loss that can be. There's an old, old song I used to hear, if I knew it all I would sing it for you, but it's too old for me to recall. The only part I know: "Oh, that strawberry roan Oh, that strawberry roan She goes up in the east & comes down in the west I'm staying in the middle, I'm doing my best To ride that strawberry roan" It'a an old cowboy horse lover song, popped into my head when I read this thread. Truly sorry to hear of this loss my friend. |

My Grandfather has a farm and I know the pain from loosing an animal you have come to love and care for over many years. I am truly saddened by your loss and I hope that the happy memories help to lessen the blow. |

I'm very happy that this wonderous animal brought so much joy to all of you. All things must eventually pass, but that doesn't bring any comfort to those that lose those special companions. 28 years is a good row for a horse, and that has got to be very, very painful. my sincere condolences. Take care you two... and take my best wishes with you! |

thats is so sad and i am VERY sorry..i have 4 horses and love them dearly...my sister almost lost one yesterday due to colic...i am sure he was very special to you....horses have their own personality and i know some can be just sweethearts...i think i would just go to peices if mine died...i saw the pics of the old paint before when i would listen to our subs...28 is a very good age to live to..but i know it is hard dealing with it.....i think you have inspired me to write a song about it..if you dont write one that is:) take care and God bless you, heather ( or sidekick- which is my horses name also) |

As a kid growing up I might have rode a bike 3 times but 10-20 miles a day ridin'. One of my biggest losses during the military was getting word that my lil mare was gone.. One of the old country songs I still look for in karaoke is "Strawberry Roan" maybe some day.....Anyway the only way to remember is them to bury them in your heart... "I was hangin round town not spendin a dime..." |

Post subject: | Your kindness is a true comfort |
Thank you all for the very nice words, and heartfelt sentiments. You are all so kind, and it is a real comfort to read your words. Had NHH asked before she posted this, I would have told her not too. I am so glad she did. Roanie's registered name was "Paint Me Please" cause she didn't have as much of the Overo (paint) pattern as the breeeders had hoped. I first met her when she was ~10 and we clicked right off the bat. She was very tolerant of my novice abilities, and taught me a lot about riding, and truly changed my life. I am so glad I got to sit with her at the end, but losing her was harder than I thought it would. |

Dear OP, Our warmest thoughts are with you. We are animal lovers too and understand how much they can give but ask for so little... Margie always admired your beautiful horse.. We hope that you can find comfort in knowing that you have many friends here. Cort & Margie |
