WHOOO HOOO!!

I'M BACK FROM MY SHOPPING DAY!! I WENT TO AXE MUSIC (MIGHT BE A CANADIAN THING) AND I BOUGHT A NEW EXTERNAL SOUNDCARD (WITH XLR INPUTS) AND NEW MIC AND NEW CORD.... The guys at that place were so incredibly helpful... anyways.... I can't BELEIVE the difference all this stuff makes... my recordings sound a bajillion times better... and the best part?? NO HISS!!!

THANKS KNIGHTSHOW, KARAOKEMEISTER, MORTEN AND OTHERS WHO HELPED MY HUBBY FIGURE OUT WHAT TO BUY!!!

for those of you who are wondering exactly what I bought here goes:
SOUND CARD--Tascam US-122 Audio/MIDI interface
MIC-- Shure SM58 (and a cord for it)

I'll be gittin the mixer in a bout two weeks fer my Birthday :) (Jan 8th for those who wanna send money! LMAO!)

in a minute Im gonna sub another recording (I'll just call it "Sound Check" I'd love to get some feedback as to how it sounds from some of ya if ya don't mind)

does an external soundcard make a difference then?... my soundcard is an avance ac97..the hissing that i get whilst ive managed to quieten some of it can still be heard on my recordings.

I've been using shure mics for a long time. There are no better mics out there. Virtually all pros use the SM58 or the wireless version of the same mic.

But some of you sure do complicate the matter of recording. (sound cards, mixers, etc.) After all, this is a Karaoke showcase and I think what we should hear when listening to someones sub is the same as what we would hear if we were at a Karaoke club.

I have even seen where people use software to correct vocal pitch, etc. Maybe I'm wrong here but isn't this for fun :?:

When it comes to recording I follow the Kiss method. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

 I bought an IRiver MP3 player/recorder and just connected the (audio out) from my Karaoke amplifier to the (line in) on the MP3 recorder. Just push the record button and have at it! If your song and the mix sounds okay coming out of the speakers that's the way it will be recorded.

The player/recorder can store 4 hours of recordings. I use the software that came with the MP3 player to upload the song to my computer via a USB cable and walla.....I have the song in MP3 format on my computer and ready to upload to the SS.

I made this decision because 1. I'm a techno geek  . 2. It was cheaper than upgrading my sound card. 3. I can stand instead of being tied to my computer. 4. What you hear is what you get.

I do not use vocal editors, pitch matching software, mixers or any of the other stuff except the echo that came with my Karaoke player. But you get that at a Karaoke club.

Lets face it.....except for two or three of the very best at the SS the rest of us are going to have to be happy with our day job. I am retired now but one thing you can be sure of is I did not retire from the music industry! To me Karaoke is a wonderful way of self expression and the best way in the world to have a party. Purely fun!

I love listening to the different voices on the SS. In tune, outa tune, great voice, or something else - I don't care. It's entertainment. I am well aware that my talent level lies somewhere between William Hung (American Idol) and Tiny Tim. So I have to do this for fun......what other reason could there be?

The SM48 is usually used with a quality PA system, like in a church for voice. However I have a SM48 and an SM58 and I can't the difference. I have had others try both mics. and so far nobody can actually hear any difference in the sound quality. And the SM48 is cheaper. I bought a new one for about $50.00 on eBay.

THANK YOU Handyman! I was telling my boyfriend, it's like decorating the house, or building a damn computer. You get one thing, then you keep thinking of things you need to help the new thing. Oh well such is life. It's fun building up stuff.

well first of all.... may I just say I've never used any kind of pitch correction or whatever.... I don't even know HOW! LOL! and YES it's a TON of fun.... it's purely a hobbie for me also... I have noooo intention of ever trying to make it the "business" good lord.. I'm far too shy for that. and have far too little talent.... But as I said... This is a TON of fun... I'm happiest when I'm singing and recording... you could call it my PASSION.... and that's why I'm gonna spend money on sound cards etc.... makes it that much MORE enjoyable. Personally the hiss I was getting was driving me NUTS which was making me frusterated, which made me start hating recording. That was definately a shame, and NOW I'm SOO excited and my confidence has come back!!

Ya know how when u hear yourself played back and you think "Oh my GAWD is that what I really sound like??" well I've discovered that NO that ISN'T what I sound like. My new mic n soundcard makes me sound more like ME not like a tin can! ;)

anyways... there's ma ramble about how EXCITED I am!

I love my Shure mic, I used to use an sm58 but I upgraded to the new beta version about a year ago... its wonderful! I still use the 58 as a backup mic, but I LOVE my beta!!

I hit the sales yesterday and got me a new mini stereo system to hook up to my pc, so I can finally throw out the old crappy one that I got from someone who was gonna throw it out anyway!

I have sound that doesn't break and buzzzzzz every 5 minutes!!!!

WHOOHOOOOO!!!!!
