As this year is coming to a close....Question..What were the top 5 songs sung at your show?

I'm going to double check my actual CompuHost history next time I work, but it seems like not too many 2016 songs have really caught on with my singers. I really think my 2016 top songs are going to be identical to my 2015 top songs.

I would almost bet that the "most performed songs" were not actually released any time in the last 5 years.

I don't KJ, but it seems that as pop is more inflected with hip-hop there are more songs that don't work as well for karaoke. Is that so?

I really think that it's more that modern songs rely more on rhythm than melody, and great, long-lasting karaoke songs seem to be those with killer melody.

Don't have current data (only til October at home), but I always do a top 500 list at the end of the year.
So far (as of Oct) the top '5' at our show are (with release dates for Chris ;) )
King, Elle - Ex's & Oh's 79 times (released 2015)
Myles, Alannah - Black Velvet 76 times (released 1989)
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite 75 times (released 2000)
Bryan, Luke - Drink A Beer 73 times (released 2013)
Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow - Picture 73 times (released 2001) - BRIGHT SIDE HERE>? It DIDN'T get sung 292 days of the year!
Little Big Town - Girl Crush 67 times (released 2014)

To get ANY of the last ten years tunes into the top 5 we would have to run autotune set at max so our singers could sound as bad as the originals.

I bought Uptown Funk and so far no one has asked to sing it :( On the brightside I have not had Picture done a single time in over 2 years. I kind of miss it.

Girl Crush is probably the most popular recent song at my shows.

I tend to get a little older crowds.

Girl Crush gets sung every show, for the last year, by a variety of different singers. No one has sung Hello by Adele either.

Current up to today for the year, really didn't change except for the positions.
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite 83
Myles, Alannah - Black Velvet 83
King, Elle - Ex's & Oh's 82
Bryan, Luke - Drink A Beer 78
Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow - Picture 77

Uptown Funk is actually sitting at number 11 as of right now on my list for the year.
Hello - Adele is at 31 position.
7 Years? Not a popular song, sung 6 times and sitting in position 745

I haven't went through to check for duplicates yet (end of year task) but so far in 2016 4,545 individual song titles were sung according to my log.

Uptown Funk don’t get played much anymore but 24K Magic’s been gaining steam, played twice Fri & twice Sat.
Can’t Stop The Feeling & Love Never Felt So Good (Michael Jackson), both Justin Timberlake.
Band Perry - Gentle On My Mind

Thank goodness most of my singers sing upbeat songs to get the crowd out of their sits and onto the dancefloor. 2016 top 10 songs - definitive standard get up and dance!
Play That Funky Music / Suds In The Bucket / This Is How We Do It / Ladies Night / Let’s Groove / Blurred Lines / Moves Like Jagger / What I Like About You / Sexyback / Electric Slide

I can attest to the "most sing upbeat songs" at Brian's show. My wife, Margo, and I had a great time when we were there.

Your show sounds like a fun group.

The Electric Slide, though?

Electric Slide, a popular line-dance of baby boomers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mOY2eWO2qw (I think dancers in the vid were overdoing it, tho, but you get the idea).

Allow me to explain. I’m not in a bar, I’m in a family restaurant/club with a big dancefloor. Mostly baby boomer families, a diversity crowd with different upbringing and lifestyle hence I get all kinds of song requests they can dance to.

In that line-dance category includes Cupid Shuffle, Cha Slide & Boot Scootin’ Boogie. I agree; they're just a fun friendly active group! :)

Post subject:  Re: Top 5 Songs of 2016

the last time i did the electric slide was at my cousin's wedding almost 15 years ago.. I was considerably thinner and in better shape back then.. *sigh*

I would LOVE to work at a family restaurant. If for nothing else than sheer numbers. I know about 20 people in my reg karaoke circle.. Of those I've maybe gotten 10 to come out on a semi-regular basis when i was doing shows.

By comparison, I know over 200 people from my church with familys and every time i've hosted a karaoke party and invited them, practically all of them show up. It's total chaos.

I've tried to convey this to all the restaurants etc, but no one seems convinced that it is worth trying, even on a once a month basis.
