I was curious about the largest contest prize you've ever seen for a contest. I was looking on the net and most of them were topping out at $500. Anyone seen larger prizes? |

The largest prize I've seen in my region has been $500.00. Most are about $250 or less around these parts. I think the larger prize money comes from corperate contests. |

Yeah I'd like to know that as well as it was a contest from about 3 years ago so it wasn't (@$%!) advertising! WHATEVER! |

We have a show that does a big screen tv - about a $1200 prize or so. You do have to pay a deliver fee of about $150 though. Cash prizes are usually pretty low though - around $100. |

Local Indian casino had two contests last year. The first one they gave $2,500 and trip for 2 to Vegas. Second contest was for $5000, winner take all. They are getting ready to start another one, $5,000 again. Interesting, they do the contest once a month for six months and then do the finals. Limit the entries to 40 per night. Everybody brings their friend/families. By the time most of them play the machines the contest probably makes them money. Also interesting, the first contest they picked 5 finalists each month and they each got $200. Didn't pay anything to the finalists the second contest. |

Sheez... I've never been to a contest... how does the average run of the mill Karoake contest work? Judges? Applause meter or something? man.. that would be cool. |

Unlike most KJ's here, I don't have a beef with contests, and the ones I've been involved with have been set up and run by me with the venues providing the prizes. They tell me this is what we want to do for prizes and then I take it from there. As far as largest prizes, I have run one contest where first prize was $1000, 2nd was $300 and third was $200. I have also run a contest where first prize was a trip to Cancun. I just wrapped up another contest on Friday which paid out $1000 in total prize money. |

OH!!!!! DUH!!!!! how could I have forgotten to tell ya all this story: ok... so I go to this karaoke bar here (called Rosarios) I used to practically LIVE there... not so much anymore since they got a new kj. Don't like him at all..... so back when it was GOOD there, Every thursday they had Ladies Night which was basically just cheap drinks and roses for all the ladies, but for a bout a year they were tryin' to give away a diamond ring by buying 50/50 tickets. If you won, you get to go up and pick an envelope outta this huge box. if the envelope had a KEY in it, you opened up the locker that the ring was in. so.... I went every chance I got.... CONVINCED that I'm gonna win this ring. Then on Valentines Day 2001. they got fed up with tryin to give this damn thing away and NOBODY was winning it. so they said "ok... THIS is the night we give it away. We're gonna do 50/50's again.... if your number gets called, that's it...you win it. BUUUT!! if someone sings the "secret song" we have written down, you win it before the 50/50 draw happens" so here I am buyin 20 tickets..... (they 2 bucks each) and I'm hell-bent on winning this thing...... anyways... the night goes on and I go up to sing my song "Valentine" by Martina McBride..... of course, right? It's valentine's day and it's Martina!! ! so after i sing it... i hand the kj the mic and he goes "good job...blah blah.....give her hand cuz she WON THE RING!!" that was the secret song!! ! and I took home the beeeeeautiful sparkler! We'd just gotten engaged a couple weeks prior, so we returned the ORIGINAL ring and kept the one I won! ! (it was ok with the hubby, btw) so THERE'S a wack of money WE saved that went towards the wedding! ! so I took the ring to get appraised.... it's 1/3 of a carat..... near perfect color, clarity and cut.... worth $2500 (cdn) PRETTY SWEET HUH? PHEW! so there's my contest story (tho it wasn't reeally a CONTEST.... it was still won at karaoke! !) biggest prize I've seen.... $2500. |
