While reading through some of the earlier posts, I see you visit Pensacola, Florida frequently. I am a born & raised P-colian. Next time you are in town let me know. I don't know anyone around here that is into Karaoke. Sure would be cool to hang out with somebody that was into the scene. & didn't think it was a goofy hobby!

Wish I had known that before when I was down at the end of November!

Went to the show at Seville Quarter (ok, but the books were terrible, and the KJ was 'upset' because his friends had to wait to sing!), and then at Cordova Lanes (nice books, decent sound, but a little rough around the edges overall).

There were a lot of others shows I found out about but never got a chance to go or was afraid of listening to nothing but Dixie Chicks and Merle Haggard all night long (like the small play by my parents house).

I'll let you know the next time I head down that way though... will likely be sometime in late July.

I am almost afraid to advise where to go in Pensacola. Karaokemiester is correct, there isn't much here. I liked Shooters in Cordova Lanes on Airport Blvd., It is fun. I personally cannot go there because of a wierd run-in I had with one of the employees. Actually the Female KJs Mother accosted me because I had sat at the bar next to her husband who is like old enough to be my father. He knew alot about the Karoake scene around town so I was talking to him about it & the Lady met me outside in the smoking area and threatened me with violence. I reported her to the owner and she was fired. The establishments management apologized & gave me a substantial credit for a tab etc. in apology. They were cool about it.
I did go back one time. But was very uncomfortable. Its a close knit workplace & some of the staff was doing the whisper point thing.. Reeeely wierd. BUT for somebody else .. it's a fun place. They do it on the weekends. There is a place called Sam's I believe on Mobile Hwy. I heaard was good but I have never been there. They do the weekends also .
I can't go this weekend I have my daughter. I usually go out every other weekend.

I only went to those two places, but if you check the Friday paper or look on the Pensacola New Journal website you can find listings of places that hold karaoke.

The guy at Shooter's (Cordova Lanes) was ok, but his mix was off sometimes. He has a decent selection, nice breakout on his new stuff in a seperate section of his books, and he's pretty flexible as far as letting you bring your own discs, etc. His mic cords are a little on the short side though so mobility while singing is extremely limited, and he was having problems with the video side of things when I was there. I'm hoping he has that resolved now, but it's largely because his cabling is on the shorter side. This is my preferred location, largely because it's a non-smoking venue so my Mom can come if she chooses.

The best thing about Seville Quarter was the fact that there are lots of other places to go while you're waiting to sing. The KJ was ok, his books were a shambles (don't photocopy the covers so dark you can't read them) and he would turn up the bass so much it was damaging the speakers (I could actually hear the cone on incursion smacking the backplate). Seville Quarter is always a great place to go, the place was packed, and it's always a blast. The Karaoke is held in Lillie Marlene's which is one of the smaller venues in the Quarter. The KJ seemed to have an attitude because he was doing a show there (the premiere nightspot in town) and while he was courteous to me, he was also juggling the rotation quite a bit.

I drove by Sam's on Mobile Highway but didn't stop. There was a lot of cars there but the last time I was in there (many, many, years ago) it wasn't the sort of venue I would enjoy. I almost stopped but didn't.

O'Reilly's has karaoke, but again, I didn't go. I did go there a number of years ago (no karaoke then) and it was a small neighborhood bar.

There is a small bar in Beulah at the corner of Nine Mile Road and Beulah Road. They do karaoke one night a week (Sunday I think), but it's always been a 'country' bar, which I don't usually fare too well in when I start singing becausae I don't sing much in the way of country music.

There are a number of other places that do karaoke, but these are the one's I've been exposed to. As I said earlier, check the entertainment section of the paper on Friday to get a complete listing and you might want to call ahead to be sure they're still holding karaoke (because of the holiday some may cancel the show).

Good luck and let us know which venues you make it to!
