Okay... so, my bf's step dad runs a kj gig 5 nights/week at a pretty nice bar. My bf's mom used to run it with him, and she was actually the techie one (had the info, had the ear, was the fix-it-jack-of-all-trades woman) but kj wasn't paying the rent and so she got a job... this is probably a pretty simple question to answer so here goes... :: The cordless mic gets a 'cackle' sort of sound sometimes, mostly when a person stands on one side of the antennas that go with the cordless set. It doesn't happen when the person stands on the other side (so one antenna makes the mic crack/cackle, one doesn't.) Can this be fixed with some wiring, taken to a shop, etc. or is it just cheaper and smarter to get a newer and more modern set of cordless mics... the cackle really makes some people mad!!

Sounds to me the receiver is a single diversity - 1 antenna. A true "dual" diversity wireless system (2 antenna's with 2 receivers built into the same chassis) will help aid in that crackle when someone walks in front of the antenna. 1 anteanna only has one path to catch the mic signals, 2 antennas have 2 choices & it will automatically choose the best signal path thus eliminating the static caused from someone walking in front of the antenna.

However if it already a dual diversity system, then it is getting other interference from possibly flourescent/neon lights, or other things.

thnx!! I will definitly pass this info on to him, bc I know that while the rest of his system is great, it really irks people to be singing but have the mic cut out over and over again with the loud, annoying cackle! :D

I know they are expensive, but get a good quality shure wireless.

If it's a $100 setup, you've purchased just that... there are post in the forums about some good wireless mic's that are cheap, but still beware.
You might be in an area where radio frequencies are on the uprise. A new cell tower for Nextel's 2way for instance. Their frequencies are harder on electrical equipment than any other's I've seen out there.


Even true/dual diversity cheapo systems can have issues.
We have 3 wireless systems..
2 shure wireless setups.
1 EV wireless setup.
the EV system was just as expensive as the Shures, but is more prone to problems. It's even a true diversity system.


So without knowing what equipment he is using, I could only add that.

Another suggestion is to get a good backup corded mic. Most people will appreciate switching to a different mic (even in the middle of a song) to
stop having problems..
