| Post subject: | Mackie vs Peavey vs Yamaha |
Looking for experienced opinions. Come tax time I'll be purchasing my first mobile mixer/amp & speakers. I've alredy been accumulating the mics, music, machines. Got my wireless and wired mics. Got my Karoake machines(JVC single and JVC triple). The question is mixer/amp & Speakers. I'm leaning towrds a 600w Mackie with maybe Peavey 15" scorpion speakers. Seems to be that or Peavey 500w with peavey or JBL speaks most commonly used for clubs and bands. Not sure i want to go Bi-amped speaker route. Portablilty and ease of set up and transport are an issue. Primary concertn is durability and reliability and sound quality of course. Anyway wahts everyone think...........?? Swingcat , with the quality brands you are choosing from you probably can't go wrong. I have and use a set of Peavey SP5G speakers and although heavy(70lbs) , they have a great full sound. I've been using them every week at least twice a week for the last 3 years. I've had one speaker replaced and the wiring sured up on both of them lately. I would reccomend these speakers or their newer models to anyone. I've also used a set of Yamaha SV15 speakers and would rate them up their with the Peaveys (personally I like the Peaveys a little better). As far as amps or mixers I again use a Peavey Pv1200 and no problems at all (knock on wood) in three years. Power is more than adequate for my needs. I have and use a Mackie DFX12 and love it also. But then again for some smaller gigs I use a set of Peavey LITE WEIGHT 12" speakers and a Behringer Powered Mixer . Depening on what you plan to do and your budget if you stay with the 3 names you mentioned. MAckie Peavey and Yamaha. You should be fine..... |

i have mackey 450s love them tryed the unpowred mackeys with a 800 what seprate amp but they didnt sound as good dont know why the powerd speaker are easy to set up i have a dfx 12 mixer and just love them you can buy the mackeys for around 450.00 180.00 foe a mixer and you are set |

A better and more inexpensive speaker than the Mackie is the Yorkville NX550. Lighter, better sound, excellent warranty. |

i found some yorkville nx550 but the coast was 749.00 you can buy mackey 450 for 650.00 were can you find them cheaper and has anyone used them wondering how they hold up |

Well for the first two years, it doesn't matter how they hold up, Yorkville will repair or replace them. But saying that, we've had ours (520s) have been dropped, in freezing temperature overnight or longer, snow, rain, etc and never had a problem. Harry had a pair of Yorkvilles (not NX) in his accident and according to him they are working fine after one being found in water and dried out. I heard that Mackie literally has an achilles heel. If it is dropped and lands in what would be the "heel" area the cabinet will crack and break. We got ours for about $1,800/pr while the Mackies were $2,200/pr in our area. |

Hatty doesn't frequent this board. The Mackies here can be bought for $1400 (on occasion you can find them on sale for $1200). The NX520's have been discontinued as far as I could tell but they were also running about the same price. Looks like the replacements are the NX550's but they are still about the same price. |
