Rather than continuing my "NewB" thread, I wanted to share what I ended up going with after a few weeks with the pair of Yamaha DBR10's.

I know this set-up won't even come close to what many of you use for your public/professional gigs. I'm fairly satisfied for my home entertainment, and wanted to share for others I see with inquiries for home use. I also wanted to acknowledge a lot of good information I found on this forum and the feedback I received earlier.

Well, I liked the DBR10's so much, I ended go swapping them for DBR12's! I could have gone on with the DBR10 and been quite happy, but for a bit more, I liked the idea of having the additional power and headroom in case I ever needed for other uses. I realize that it's strongly advised to not use any "home theater" equipment for live sound, but I like low end and the DBR12's running as full range wasn't cutting it in FOH mode. I don't think this is unique to just the DBR's and it's negative feedback. So, for now I ended setting the HPF at 100hz, and sending a output signal from one of the DBR to my 15" Paradigm Servo Sub (v2 for those familiar). I know it's not ideal, but I figured at 1200watts RMS, and only recorded music with frequencies roughly below 100hz being sent, it should be fine. I have the variable cross over on the sub at around 100hz as well. I've got a Yamaha MG10UX as well, with Shure wireless mics.

The good news is I no longer worry about damaging the speakers for home theater/music. For Karaoke this system puts out some clean audio, at relatively high output. I think I've got the mixer gain structure set correctly as well. In fact, my speaker levels are only at about 10 o'clock and is more than the output I need.

Anyway, just sharing where I'm at and having fun with this.

Hey. Not so many years ago, I started my first basement Karaoke system with a pair of Yamaha BR10's (the non-powered predecessor). And for a rookie basement system, it rocked! Tons of late night craziness with friends & neighbors.

Just beware the addiction! Now you've upgraded to 12's. Next you'll add a subwoofer or go for 15's. Then you'll upgrade your board & effects. Maybe buy some lights and a laser. Next thing you know a friend says "Hey! You already have a great system! Wanna do my company Christmas party for $500? I'd rather pay you than some idiot I don't know!". And you'll say "What?! Sure!". Next thing you know at the party, people are asking for business cards that you don't even have. This is how it begins, and what happened to me!

You've been warned. :D

Bazza, Somewhere in the message should be a warning of legally acquiring a music library before moving into KJ status :wink:

If you want to slap together a fast Library of songs, you may want to check out Karafun offerings. They now offer more than 24000+ HD quality songs perfect for your Home Karaoke parties.

Or you can also check out Stingray Digital offering HD quality karaoke.

@Bazza - Haha, thanks for the "warning" ;-). Yup I'm very familiar with the itch for upgrades. OK, hypothetically speaking IF I were to upgrade it would definitely be getting a pro-level sub, likely the Yammy DXS15 and stay with the DBR12. I'm not even close to pushing the 12's for top/mid, so rounding it out with a better sub for live sound would be ideal. But that's just a "what if scenario" of course.

@KFalls, I've been looking around at Stingray and I'll need to checkout KaraFun as well. For the time being I've been using the "Android Hard-drive Machine". It's all for home use, and is good for now. I think Stingray would be cool...I could just access the web version from the Android Karaoke machine as suppose to keep it simple. But you can't be free with Karafun.

The truth be told, I do enjoy Karaoke with friends and family, but what interest me most is trying to create the best audio set-up given my budget. I've heard so many home Karaoke systems that have sounded bad. I decided to explore a bit as to how it could be done "right" - for home use anyway.
