Post subject:  Wanting to go digital...totally PC run. How to do?

I am tired of juggling my discs around. There are way too many, and the entire system no longer fits in my vehicle. I want to rip everything to a hard drive and go with a karaoke pc and mixer.

Where can I get information about how to do this and what a good quality system is so I can avoid spending money on something I won't be entirely pleased with?

As far as not having my discs at the gig to "prove" that I own them, I really don't give a flip. I'm willing to take my chances, and I can always provide the proof after the fact if that situation ever arises. I'm looking for convenience and portability now, while maintaining the quality and power of my current show.

check out the tech forum...

for super simple ease, though, I'd go with a laptop if your budget allows. In the long run, you'll probably be much more happier with it, and an external hard drive, say a 300gb or so!

Depends on how much you need now VS where you want to go with it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out the tech forum.

I currently have an external hard drive that's 150GB. I cleaned all the files out of it and have been ripping my CDGs to it (I haven't yet figured out how to rip my DVDs...that's phase 2).

My main PC motherboard and/or CPU crashed, so I went to straignt laptop for everything I do. I've got a Dell Pentium M 1.4GHz, but if I switch it to a karaoke machine I'll have to rebuild my desktop so I don't have all my personal and day job stuff on the karaoke computer.

I also need to figure out how to connect it to whatever it takes to plug in microphones, speakers, and monitors.

Finally, I need to find out about the software. I've been trying out the demo version of Swift Elite (lite) at home in my spare time, but I've got a lot to learn about it, and I need to find out what the best software is before I go dumping money into buying the full versions.

Um...going back to what you said, I suppose I should copy and paste most of this into the tech forum.

Thanks again for your response.

I would go with the laptop as knightshow recommended with Sax & Dotty's show hoster as your software to run it all.

However regarding your mics and speakers, etc. I would keep all of that from your existing system. Basically the laptop will replace you having to bring discs, etc. 8)

Ive been very pleased with my Hoster program and Dell inspiron 9100.Remember songs are compressed in Kma format so space needed is not as much as you might think.

Interesting... but what you're talking about on that site is a stand alone computerized "system"....

We can see that with lots of other options here, and not have to go overseas to do it (no offense).

Also, many of the site sponsors sell all-in-one systems...

I believe what the person here is asking about is a laptop or desktop unit that's really more "realistic" in price. The site you pointed us to has severe bandwidth issues, and didn't load up quickly, nor could I find retailers, costs, etc.
