I just wanted to share that I did my first show with a new Sennheiser E 835. I couldn't be happier with this microphone. It's the same price as an Audix OM-2 or Shure SM58, and worked great for karaoke. The sound is good with a bit of reverb and no EQ, its feedback rejection is great, and the sensitivity was phenomenal! The little PA I'm borrowing had to be turned way up for the other two mics, but the E835 sounded strong halfway up even with a foam windscreen on it. (Part of the reason for that might have been my mixed cables, though.) And like a lot of reviews I've read say, the E835 gives consistent sound with people at varying distances and angles to the mic, which helps with so many different singers.

My other stage mic is an Audix OM-5, and I have to admit this cheaper Sennheiser was a better investment for me. Even my musician friend who's a big Audix fan was impressed by the E835. And the Sennheiser just looks cooler too. You can't go wrong with this mic. Just be warned that it's kinda fat, and won't fit most slide-in mic stand clips. Sennheiser includes a snap-in clip in the package that will fit a wide range of mics, but I'm probably going to get a bigger slide-in clip for stage use. People aren't too keen on how to put it back!

They are actually cheaper if you buy the 3 pack. $200 for 3 mics.

Did you like it better than the OM5? I recently bought an OM5 and compared to my SM58's it's a significant improvement. The SM58 feel muddy in comparison. How would you compare to the OM5? Thanks, Morten

It was hard to give the OM-5 a fair comparison. The cheap cable and the low-powered mixer at the venue probably contributed to it, but my Audix just didn't have enough gain for the system. I had to turn it all the way up! I'm going to try it again soon with a new balanced cable, and a keyboard amplifier that I'm buying as a stage monitor. So I'll let you know how that goes. Wow, that 3-pack would be a great deal! I hope to go with wireless when I get around to having a third microphone, though.

Not enough gain????? Compared to the SM58's for the om5 I had to significantly turn down the gain of the mic pre-amp. The OM7 is (to my knowledge) a low output mic, but the om5 is actually really hot! That cable/mixer must have been pretty bad. To my opinion the OM5 is _really_ good! Morten

I did a direct comparison of my Sennheiser to the Audix OM-5 the other night, using the same XLR cable into my friend's keyboard amp. I was able to get almost exactly the same gain out of the two microphones, when speaking into them very closely. The Audix seemed to drop off a little more quickly than the Sennheiser as I moved it away from my face, but only by a bit. Both microphones work well, but the Sennheiser is a very good value for karaoke in my opinion. Must have been a bad cable or input on the mixer that gave me the poor results with the OM-5, I'd say.
