Post subject:  Need Idea's For Karaoke

Hi, I host karaoke at a Armed Forces Retirement Home. Average age is around 80 r so. but don't let that number fool you they act younger then I am.. There is over 500 people in the home..if you can name it they have it..post office, movie house..bowling alley, everything...including a liquor store the hall from the bar where I do karaoke..
they also have a cafeteria...

I have built the bar up from nothing to around 45 r 50 people which is about all it can hold..but since the first of the year I've been getting less and less people..down to around 25 now..

I have no clue as to the reason for the drop off..well I have a few...3 r 4 have died..around here a lot is going on, on the outside..i mentioned the liquor store...they buy their liquor and go to their rooms...they eat and after eating they go to their room...

soooooo, I need something to get them in there...gimmick's of some sorts...

any idea's?

Theme nights

Mexican
Flapper
50's
Sing offs
Duets

Singalongs, where you display the words on a large screen for everyone to sing along from their seats. Don't have a large screen you can plug into? Get one. Use Sound Choice Reminiscing Series as a reference for what to play.

Play DJ music for a little bit. Line dances etc.
Teach a line dance. Don't know how? Youtube it and learn a couple.

Happy Hour Karaoke (Start earlier than you normally do)

hi Don, some very good idea's.
I did hook up to a large screen so that everyone can see the lyric's but not sure that was a good idea. that's all they want to do, they use to dance and look at each other r talk..now all they do is look at the screen...if there's 40 people in there at least 35 r staring at that screen...not sure they even know or care who is singing...kinda scary..

There is a large room next to the bar. the convention center. twice a month I'm booked in there to sing..NOT karaoke. so that is more or less Theme night...one night may be a sock hop, the next country night...I invite some very good singer's from around town to help out...they also have ball room dancing...

I like the Happy Hour Karaoke idea...

every third Tuesday of the month they have Prime Rib dinners, all you can eat for $8.00
the place is packed...on that night i'll sing for the first hour then karaoke..we have more dancer's come in on that night...

thanks again for the idea's Don
