Post subject:  Super CD+G

:?: Can someone explain to me exactly what is a Super CDG. I just recently started seeing them advertised on some sites. From what I understand, they must be on DVDs or at least very similar to a DVD in order to hold the amount of data that is supposed to be on them. Are they the same size as a regular CD? Is it possible to make back-up copies of them? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!

I'm a newbie to the whole thing myself, but I think I can answer your question. Someone more knowledgeable than myself- please correct me if I'm wrong!

As I understand it, SuperCDG is a proprietary format owned by the company CAVS. At the moment, only certain of their players can play SuperCDG discs. I believe the technology is licenseable, but I don't think any other companies have licensed it.

SuperCDG is not a CD, but a DVD. I don't think you should expect it to play in a regular CD player like a CDG. SuperCDGs user mp3 or some kind of other audio compression so that you can fit 1000 or so songs on a disc. The SuperCDGs authored professionally by CAVS contain software that will run on a PC and display the lyrics and play the music.

It is also possible to create your own SuperCDGs, but these will not contain the special PC software. To create your own, it seems you need to buy this $30 program from CAVS themselves which you can use to create SuperCDGs.
