Has anyone downloaded karaoke songs from WinMX, and if so did they work?

I think you should read

http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3392 regarding file sharing. That seems to be pretty much what you want to do, mass file sharing.

Post subject:  not really

I like to practice at home. This is not about sharing files with anyone else or using them commercially. What I really want to know is if anyone has successfully downloaded a karaoke song from WinMx, and if so did the song actually work - meaning were the lyric graphics included and in sync, etc.

qrash, the surest way to get folks' pomposity up around here is to mention downloading/burning/sharing music.

Now to answer your question, I don't think that downloading a karaoke track from WIN MX will result in a true karaoke track (with words that will display on the screen) because all the files there are in Mp3 format. In order for it to be a true karaoke track, it would have to be a Mp3+G track, a .bin file or a CDG track. Any of those can be converted into something you could burn onto a disc and play in a karaoke machine.

Please disregard all the blowhards here who will probably get on you for wanting to download music (and me for defending you). These people see imaginary karaoke kops everywhere in their little karaoke kop klown kars. The truth of the matter is that the US copyright office doesn't care, and most companies don't have the time or the inclination to track you down for downloading a shared track off WIN MX.

depends if you download it as a .zip file WITH the .cdg file (if it's mp3G)... then it'll work. Or if it's a .bin file (but that would be huge! The size of a regular .wav file! Basically, a .bin file (for karaoke) IS a .wav with .cdg combined.

Most of what I've seen available for download has been cheesy midi or kar files.

Thanks All! I wasn't trying to get anybody's hackles up, that for sure. Anyway, you're right...it doesn't work.

The files available on WinMx are all user shared files so it definitely is about sharing files. If nobody was sharing there wouldn't be anything to download.

I have winMx but dont use that to get my karaoke cd+g files...
I use mIRC and have access to over 100,000 cd+g files.

I havent tried getting them from winMx but at this point, havent had the need to. I suggest getting mIRC for downloading karaoke.. I have yet to get a bad file from them althouhh the program can be quite complicated to set up.
