 This is simple stuff for someone out there..I have .kar files which I play thru vanBasco but I cannot manage to get them into Cakewalk Musiccreator to enable me to edit various tracks. Is there also a simple way to duplicate the .kar files so that I retain the original in case I stuff up in the Cakewalk side of it? I am walking with a white stick here....thankyou. Alan

yah! i wanna know too! I've got a couple .kar files that won't work in Mixcraft! How can I convert 'em into sumpthin else? Good thread, Alan! |

Copy and paste the .kar file to another folder, then just change the file extension from .kar to .mid... thats what I usually do, and it then allows me to edit the midi file part of it. You'll get a pop up warning that the file may be unusable if you change the extension, but its never caused me a problem. |

How exactly did you do it Crystal hun? Sorry, I have tried, but it still ain't letting me open it with any other program, I am trying to open them with audacity or goldwave, but its having none of it. Needless to say I am doing ?something? wrong.

You can record sounds, play sounds, import and export WAV, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, and MP3 files, and more. Note that Cakewalk is the only software that supports MIDI Read the following for an explanation. A MIDI file is a data file. It stores information, just like a text (ie, ASCII) file may store the text of a story or newspaper article, but a MIDI file contains musical information. Specifically, a MIDI file stores MIDI data -- the data (ie, commands) that musical instruments transmit between each other to control such things as playing notes and adjusting an instrument's sound in various ways. A Wave file is an audio file format, created by Microsoft, that has become a standard PC audio file format for everything from system and game sounds to CD-quality audio. MP3 stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3. The MPEG process compresses a sound sequence into a very small file, while retaining its original quality. How?
