Well After my short 1 year karaoke career, It looks like I maybe out of the business. The bar I was playing at tonight burned down with all of my equiptment inside. I just got done examining the wreckage that was once my beautiful rig and it looks like a total loss. Between water and fire It's all gone. I want to say that I'm not gonna let this beat me and I'm usually a very optimistic guy but I don't know what to do now. I don't have the money to put together a new rig and I'll probably lose all of my gigs by the time I do. I guess I'm just kinda lost and in shock right now, honestly I don't even know why I'm posting this. Sorry If I brought you guys down. |

holy mackeral! my most sincere, heartfelt condolences! to put this in perspective is now your task at hand. Okay, first of all, do you have an inventory of your items? ALL pieces of equipment... or can you make one out for purposes of insurance? CDGS too if they were there. Check with professional music stores that service equipment, and see if they have rental equipment available... keep a tab on these if you plan on using them... again, this can all be recompensated by the insurance settlement. Essentially, the fire and damage done to your equipment is keeping you from bringing in a paycheck. |

You had no insurance??????? Will the bars insurance possibly cover it?? If you get in contact with some of the companies you had bought from SOME (possibly) may be able to help you get back on track with some freebies. It's happened before to a few that i've known. |

So very sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances!! Unless you signed a waiver that your equipment would not be covered, then the establishment's insurance should cover your loss. As Knightshow said...get that inventory list together and keep a record of the time you spend getting regrouped! (A suggestion...as you get your new equipment, take a pic of it and write all the model/serial numbers down on the pics and put them in a safe place!) Good luck in getting things back together!! |

What type of speakers were they? If they were Yorkville and less than 2 years old, I believe they will replace them under their warranty program. Not much help but the bar insurance should cover it. The same sort of thing happened here but it was a roof collapse due to Hurricane Juan and the bar's insurance did cover it. |

What a bummer. Perhaps like Matt said you can rent some equipment just to hold onto your gigs till you rebuild. You didn't mention discs, We're your discs destroyed too? I once did a party at a NYC club about 4 years ago and it ran late and they wanted me to leave my setup until the morning because they didn't want to hang around till 5am to let me finish my disassembly. I wound up in a pretty hot argument with 2 bouncers who could probably kick my butt. I won by persistance and I took my stuff home. Another one was a huge party at a midtown hotel ballroom. After the gig ended I was advised that the loading dock(Where my van was parked) and the service elevator were both closed for the night. I wound up paying off the loading dock manager and another hotel employee 25 bucks each to let me breakdown and get my van out. I never leave my gear(Except a table or chair) in gigs overnight. If you still have your cdg library you could always slap together a low end temporary system until you rebuild. If you claim earnings from your karaoke on your taxes as a business, The losses are deductable and its almost tax time. Best of luck on your calamity. |

geeez that sucks, sorry to hear that, but like lonman said, check and see if the bar's insurence will cover it, although if it does, by the time you get the money, you will have been able to buy 2 systems,lol, hope you get back on your feet soon |

Oh man.....What a bummer. I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. I once left my monitor and stand at a venue. They were broken into and my stuff went to. The bars insurance covered it for us....as the owner told me....we told you to leave it in our care .....so they bought me a new one. I hope they do the same for you. I hope better things to come for you! |

I hoped you backed up those disc's. You can put together a REAL basic system for real cheap. You can get around and continue your gigs until your back on your feet. Cheap player cheap mics decent board and speakers. Hell if you lived in so. cal I'd loan you a system for the week . Come on people give a little bit. |

Thanks for all of your words of encouragement. I want to let you guys know that I spent all day scrubbing, cleaning, sodering, and buying what I couldn't fix. The show did go on saturday night. My system wasn't up to it's old performance and my credit card company called me to make sure They were my charges and then to thank me when I told them they were. I guess everything just looked a lot worse with all the soot, dirt, and water. I think I'm gonna be OK after all. I'm gonna have to replace the 2 gigs I had there every week but I sure I can do it. Thanks again guys. |

Ok guys thanks again. I've actually got some good news. The owner of the bar down the street called me today to take me on for friday nights. She told me that she had been jealous for months of the sucess we were having and wanted to move it on down the road so I've already got one of the two nights I did at this venue replaced. I spoke to the manager of the bar that burned down and he told me that the bars insurance will cover my equiptment. It looks like everything is gonna be ok after all. Oh yeah and Knight It turns out I lost 2 speakers, mixer, eq, bbe, and effect processor. I managed to save my compressor, 1 speaker, all of my mics including my 2 wireless mics, monitor, video converter, and I got my laptop out when they evacuated us. So about half. Thanks again for the support guys. |

Wow! Drop off for a couple days while out of town and all sorts of stuff happens! I'm glad most of all that no one was harmed in the fire. As already mentioned I'd discusss having the bar's insurance cover the losses. Failing that, I'd take this as a lesson hard learned and take out insurance to cover losses if something like this were to happen again. I know that those that operate above board are fighting the scum multiriggers and other things to keep their head above water, but even with my operating only seasonally (for now) I don't think I'll go into a season again without insurance - on the equipment or liability. We've had a number of theads on insurance recently so lots of information regarding both liability and equipment replacement insurance is available in those threads. Again, glad you made it out of the building without personal injury and was able to salvage the business and pick up a new gig to replace the one you were missing. |
