That was the movie with Nicole Kidman in which she moves into a haunted house with her 2 kids.

some of us don't have the cashola to dish out for the total top end wireless mics "god"...
I get really tired of those that frown on the middle of the road microphones. I've had the Audio Technica AS890s (dual set for $200) and the 200 series single I got from radio shack for a measly $100.
NEVER had a problem with them.
Now, granted, the 890s do appear to be a bit tempermental when it comes to neon... but I've managed to work around them.
I just don't have $400 to spend on a single wireless and $500 for a dual system! SHEESH!

And I totally agree with KnightShow here. I would love to have to top of the range stuff, but can not afford it either. I have 2 Nady wireless UHF's, and am very happy with them. So anyone, please laugh at my inferior products, but my shows are just as good without the Shure's. I'd rather investe money in disks then more mic's.

I agree. Top of the line stuff is nice, but at the same time there is 'band for the buck', 'top of the line' and 'don't go there'. It usually shop for bang for the buck, but slipped up a couple time going with REALLY cheap stuff. Example? I have the $30 for 2 VHF wireless mics setup (bought these before I had a brain!). Can't use em for singing, but they're fine to annouce with if I get stuck across the room. Yea, if I had to do it all over again there are lots of things I wouldn't buy... fortunately, I bought very little REALLY cheap stuff and only wasted about $350 total so far(across mics, players, discs).
BTW, not too long ago Dr. D mentioned the VocoPro UHF 3800 setup was unusually good quality for a VP product. He liked 'em better than his Shure UHF setup and found them for $295.00. Wondering if anyone else tried 'em and felt the same way.
Knightshow, did you get the Audio Technics mics at Radioshack.com or at a local store? The only thing I saw locally was the Radio Shack brand wireless.
BTW, I'm asking for wireless mics for X-Mas and wanted to point in the right direction.

I bought a pair, and they have been performing for me for almost 2 months now.
about 15 shows, and with the same set of batteries. I really do like them. I don't like voco pro on much but I had the vhf set, and used them for 2 years, and sold them to another kj, and bought this set.

Not to be an (@$%!), but I already KNOW that the Shure systems are great, and if I had the money I'd go ahead and get some. However, I am looking more middle of the road pricewise. I'm done playing with VHF mics, and there were a couple different models that I'm looking at. The Gemini's were one, and there is a NADY system on sale at musicians friend that I am also looking at. I'd like to hear more about yours All Star.
As far as having the best mic for me and lesser ones for my customers, I think that is crap. I've been accused of doing just that because I always sound great when I sing at my shows, and because I don't let anyone else sing into the microphone I use (for health reasons, not that it's better equipment). I put out 3-5 (corded) mics for a show depending on the venue, and they ae all the exact same make and model. (NADY SP-5's, on sale 3 for $20 at the musicians friend) They are GREAT mics, soundwise and durability-wise. I have never had a problem with these mics in the year and a half I have had them. I can get 15 of these things for one Shure SM-58. Is the 58 going to make THAT MUCH of a difference? Doubt it. All you need is someone who knows what they are doing on the board, and you'll be just fine.
So back to wireless, My main concern is durability. I've owned lower end wireless mics where one trip to the floor ended their lives because the plastic battery cap cracked rendering the mic useless.
It looks like the NADY wireless doesn't have the 2" battery cap like the cheaper wireless mics do. The Gemini's also seem to have done away with this. That system has everything I'm looking for--2 mics on one unit, rack mountable receiver, and no plastic battery cap. It's just that I've never seen them in person, and was hoping someone here had.

Big Mike, I bought my 2 Nady UHF wireless mics online from music 123 dot com about 2 years ago. They are the previous version of the Nady UHF 3/HT Handheld Wireless System.
#1 - Clarity, no need to play too much on the mixer, all settings pretty much at the 12 position normally
#2 - wide operating range, the people doing karaoke like to serenade sometimes
#3 - each mic has it's own receiver, with duel antennas, something I prefer to the single unit for 2 mics.
#4 - good price range
#5 - still going strong after a couple of falls
#6 - Half-rack receiver design with retractable front panel dual antennas
#7 - Tone Squelch for locking out potential interference

For price and value go for the AS890 dual wireless system. I have been using them for well over a year and they are great.
I bought a single gemini wireless mic back in 2000 for 169.00, It turned out to be a muffled piece of junk after several gigs.
The lower end Audio Technica (About 100 bucks) isn't terrible.

I have a SM58 UHF, yes i paid a pretty penny for it, think i paid $349 for it. I have had the AS-890's, they were ok, but started getting problems that i refuse to have at a show (cutting out, pops, static, etc) even inside 20 feet from the receiver.
I also have the AT Freeway 200 Series (handheld for under $100) headset system. I hated this set for the longest time, then i realized that i bought it and need to make it work. The headset that came with it was JUNK, i also found that the receiver does not play well close to other receivers (even with my shure UHF)
Let me explain, most VHF systems like the freeway 200 do not work well when the receviers are closer than 2 to 3 feet from each other. I use a SKB DJ shuttle. I put the shure receiver on the corner of the little ledge on the shuttle; I have found i CANNOT put the AT receiver on the other corner, i have to set it on the otherside of my setup. Just moving the receiver has eliminated all the issues i had with the AT set. I wore it at a wedding, was able to leave the facility and go outside to do the grand enterance line-up, when before it would drop out if i walked 15 feet
If you can afford to pay the price for the Shures, great!!. IMHO i feel if you buy 2 shure's, you will be putting out about $600 to $700 for the initial outlay. those will last for a long time, if taken care of. If you buy the cheaper units, sure the cost is lower, the sound might be ok for some time. but how many times will that cheaper set be able handle a screaming person, being dropped, the normal riggors of road work. in 3 years how many of those cheaper mics will you have replaced????
I can attest to what the SM58 wireless will take, a fellow KJ has had his SM58 wirelesses for over 3 years, and has yet to have any problems beyond a dented ball on the mic. yep one of them has been dropped, rolled off the table, etc. The wired ones have beed through the same, still sound just the same.
Their original cheaper mics, have long since been retired, the mics ceased to transmit, the receiver quit receiving on one channel. numerous repairs, and problems still crop up. My AS-890's are still mounted, they will be ok if i need a backup mic.
BTW: some DJ's have given the gemini mics some good reviews, and gemini stands behind their products, get em, give em a try. Your milage may vary with anything.
I DO NO beleive in giving all my singers a cheaper mic. notice i did say all singers. I am not stoooopid!!! I am not going to give somebody who can barely walk up to the stage my $375 wireless, but i am also not going to give them a $5 mic either, heck they may not get to sing at all.

meister,
go to their website... and search for wireless microphone. It's the first one on the site. the model number is ATW-202; do a search on that, and once you know the catalog number (Catalog #: 32-1253), go into your local shop for that.
You'll need a mic connection to whatever you're hooking it up into. A 1/4" plug to 1/4" is six bucks there!

I'm another one that can't afford to spend the bucks on a Shure Wireless Mic (or 2). That being said, Does anyone have anything to say about these Hisonic Mics? I've seen some of them on E-Bay for about $125. The ones I am looking at are the HS-U302 and the HS2388.

the look like a set I used to have, but they're from a different brand.
The shape sure looks the same, though. And they're very light. We used them for a while, but ended up going back to the wired mics.
Now with the AS890s, I've not had complaints about sound the way we did with the other wireless we used to have!

Mr first wireless was a cheap Gemini VHF system. I didn't like the sound or the quality of the mic - very hollow sounding and plastic. I wouldn't recommend. I do have and use now an inexpensive Audotechnic 200 series singel mic ($99). This unit I would highly suggest ...as noted above BANG FOR YOU BUCK category. I also used in the past the dual Audiostream unit and did like the sound but the battery compartment came lose or broken as it was made out of plastic ...I understand that have improved this unit ...but haven't seen it myself ?

Jam, You are talking about the same wireless mic that I stated wasn't terrible.
I still stand by the AS890's. They sound crisp, They have no dropout problems, And singers love them.
One note, I don't have my AS890's receiver rack mounted. I keep the receiver on my table, Maybe thats the difference?

I do use the sm58 for myself. Not even my girlfriends get to sing on it. I do have the lesser model cordless for my customers. BUTT I do have 4 sm58 hard wired mics out at all times for MY loving and grateful clientle. Most real singers are quite pleased with this arrangment being how most of the KJ's around here use the old buy 3 get the next million free samson specials.................I will let my wife use the shure headset wireless though. I'm not a complete ogre ya know.............
