Hello,

As most of you are, I am running a karaoke host business , mostly wedding as this is my part time business apart from a fulltime job and im only available on the weekends.

So usually we would be playing fill in music at certain moments such as : at the beginning when guests come in, when bride and groom come in , soft music when they eat, first dance songs ,then karaoke host and most of the time about 1-1.5 hours before the end we play up beat music for dancing as well....ect... So pretty much both KJ & DJ as well.

Due to the fact that I'm not mixing live music (tracks) coz im not a professional DJ ,I play pre-mixed songs using Virtual DJ , we try to give the customers a quite complete package instead of having karaoke and DJ seperately . Can I actually advertise my service as a KJ&DJ as well?

Anyone with similar situation or story?

Thanks for sharing your ideas.
kevin

Of course you can. You're offering both services together. I know of many KJs who offer up both DJ and KJ as a single service and as a combination service.

Hi ,

thanks for the reply . Somehow I feel a bit strange to present as "DJ" due to not having a "proper DJ console" and not mixing live tracks . However I do run non-stop premixed dance songs using virtual DJ to keep people on the dance floor . I think most of the time people don't care what you do or what gears you use anyway, as long as you can provide them the right beats/songs at the right moments so they can dance to it.(just my personal opinion)

Also does "not having DJ console" make you look less professional DJ?

Just wondering

We are KJ & DJ service. I do this all the time as well, I use Traktor from NI.

I tell my clients that I don't do heavy duty club type mixing, if they want that I have to hire out. Most of my clients are ok with that.

Not every event NEEDS a console (I do have one though for when time and space permit). Thankfully as long as you know the keyboard shortcuts... You are golden.

Advertise away :)

absolutely, DJ is not restricted to club mixing. i have actually found that at least for me most weddings do not want a true club DJ, but more someone to keep everyone having fun.

I use to (but no more) DJ with just my keyboard. I never needed a DJ console to do a dance. Just like you do a Karaoke gig. I use Mixx a free-ware program.
We call that Radio mixing! (just like the Radio stations)

I agree 100% most weddings do not desire or want a non stop song mixing club style DJ.
There is such a varied age and musical taste of people at weddings. Be early and pay attention
to every minor detail so you don't screw up their big day... :P

Hi ,

Thank you all for your suggestions , it certainly boosts up my confidence a lot . Yes I don't do sort of "hardcore club DJ " , I usually mix songs depending on the atmosphere required and try my best to make transition from one to another song as smooth as I can .So I guess this is pretty normal as you all said.

Thank you all for your ideas.

Virtual DJ is a cracking package for DJing. All you need to do is set your lappy on a waist high table facing outwards with ONE access point for punters to weave their way up to you and scream / slur their drunken requests at you.

Have a great night !

I started out as a KJ only then purchased Disco lights. I'm now a DJ with Karaoke. It's all the same to me. some tracks you dance to, and other you sing to
