There is very little academic study on the subject of karaoke, I'm halfway through this and I'm finding it fascinating. It may appeal to a few of you here.

Karaoke is not much for "Study" It's just HARD-CORE Pick a song and sing it... and sing it again... and again... and again... till it's perfect... or at least perfect in your head.

Karaoke is also entertaining... we love to watch and hear "Bad singers" just as much as good singers. Karaoke = Fun

Anything is up for study.

I think I'll pick this up. Thanks, Marble!

I agree with NoShameKaraoke. Anything is up for study. As simplistic as it is to say, "karaoke is not much for 'study'," there are many reasons people choose to enjoy karaoke, whether they choose to sing or not, and the song choices they may make if they do sing. I think it will be fascinating to read what the author experienced in his karaoke journey.

Maybe, as a KJ, you're just blind to the fact that there is much more to it than what you just described. It's a lot more than just going out and singing to have a good time for many people. And, BTW, there have been other people who have written a book or two about Karaoke which included some in depth analysis on the subject.

Here's a few books:
