As we get closer to the opening of the Karaoke.net site, we thought it would be very helpful to know what the ratio of mp3+g download to custom CDG discs. I am not Forum savvy enough to know the best way to conduct the poll so perhaps one of the admins can take this over if there is a tool to do it. Otherwise, please let us know your preference.
Thanks Michael

I will buy download if I need a song immediately then stupidly will rebuy to have that same song on a custom disc - yes I prefer to have a physical piece of obsolete plastic still that holds my music material for back up if nothing else. If I don't necessarily need a song immediately or am just looking for gaps to fill or older requests, I will get custom disc orders.

Why not see if there is a way you can afford to do both. I don't know how it works in the US but when the 'no fly' list was forced upon the uk producers, it was for 'downloads only' so what they did is set it up so that there entire catalog was visible, but some titles could only be purchased on a custom cd+g.

I don't think that was the point. They have their licenses for the download as well as customs. I'm thinking it has something to do with the launch being bumped up if more people are going to use downloads primarily.

I prefer downloads... mainly for quick single song clientele requests... and not wanting to wait for discs to be ordered & from whatever criteria the minimum number of selections the manu establishes for custom discs, and delivered by whatever means the manu and the kj decide fits their needs... Yeah, downloads works for me!

Downloads are the preferred method for me as a non-commercial user.

Same here. Downloads! love it when a singer request a song & I can say: "Sorry, I don't have it right off hand but I can get it & you can sing it within the next 10 minutes - or on your next turn. One manu (I think there's another) also offer hd/mp4's with fancy colored background.

downloads here as well. when i buy it all goes to a cloud for backup to replace what i was using discs for. 1) i get it immediately 2) i don't need a minimum number of songs 3) i don't have to pay extra for the disc itself (in the past has been something like $5 plus tracks) 4) i don't have to pay for shipping 5) i don't have to wait for all of those plus shipping time before the customer can sing it 6) cloud backup at this point is more safe than a thin plastic disc
no dig at Lon in any of that.

Well... we all know that I am a MINORITY (being an ODB KJ (not at the present time tho... BEFORE Chris Avis decides to point it out to the whole world again)). I would prefer a Custom disc IF possible, but I can convert an MP3+G and MP4+G file to a BIN File so that I can burn it to a disc myself. The only thing I would require in that case (if I have to burn it to a disc myself) is some form of consent from your company that I can indeed media-shift and be allowed to use that copy commercially (as long as I remain 1:1).

Why is this even a question?
Immediate single downloads with the option to design and/or order a custom disk if that's your thing.
Why make other people who are in the 21st century wait just because a few luddites are stuck in the 19th? 8>)

That sounds like a pretty nice idea. In answer to your question, I think KSF is trying to present an air of good Customer Service. KSF didn't say whether or not it will be done both ways. He's just trying to see if it's feasible for his company to do it.

Save on shipping and the hassle of waiting for it to clear custom. For some reason shipments from the us seem to take longer in general than shipments from the Uk.

I believe they are looking at who will be the primary user to possbily release the launch date of the site sooner for downloads & then custom discs when they are ready closer to the original launch date.

I prefer downloads also. However, MP3+G's are old technology. All downloads should be offered as HD video tracks like Zoom, Sunfly, SBI and Karaoke Version are doing. Seriously, MP3+G's are dead. Get with the times and offer todays technology. All new downloads I buy will only be HD versions whenever available. If you can't do that, you're gonna miss out on a huge market share since we'll be buying our new songs from one of the above companies that offer it.

I am with Lonman and like to have a disc in hand but realize it is probably a minority position.

No problem with the hi res video for the words and quality bit rates but . . . God help us when producers decide what epilepsy inducing backgrounds to put behind the words. If you lived through the sixties you know what I'm talking about. All we wanted was to see was our favorite groups actually playing their hits on TV. Instead we were lucky if we could decode clear video of three guitar chords, 2 hi hat swishes, 4 bass notes, and a 3 second lead riff out of the Pyschedelic slide shows the idiot network execs thought rock viewers wanted to see.

having both options like KV, SF, ZM etc offer is great. i still like CDG, but my software lets me put whatever background i want during the song. 1st, it is uniform through all brands that way. one screen for every song 2nd, it lets me brand on screen in full hd without, like dsm mentioned, whatever weirdness was decided that day. but a lot of people like it so not bad to have both as options.
