Post subject:  Can Plexitor Burn onto DVD?

I am just courios.......

A guy at work was asking how to burn CD+G's....what programs, etc.

I have all of that, and told him that I can normally fit 16 songs on a 700MB CD-R (as the bin files can be up to 40mB big!)

Anyway, he asked..."you can only fit 16 songs on a CD?", and I said that, for me, was the safest as I know there will be enough room.

And he asked, "Well, what about on a 4 GB (or whatever size DVD-R's are) DVD?".....but I don't believe that you can burn with a plexitor drive on DVD?

Anyway....is there a way to burn karaoke onto a DVD...or do you have to get a certain drive for that as well?

And what about for the karaoke machine? Can a regular karaoke machine (like one you can buy at Best Buy or Future shop, or Radio Shack..with a built in screen? Like the attached pic?) play DVD's? Or, what if I wanted to take it to karaoke (a DVD with karaoke on it?) Would your players be able to play it?

Do you need to buy a DVD karaoke machine to play DVD's? I suppose that they could not play either in a regular karaoke machine?

Sorry for all the questions! Thanks for all your help![/img]

#1 - Plextor can burn DVD's if you have a Plex DVD burner, e.g. the Plextor PX-708UF (px-708uf/sw) DVD±RW Burner.

#2 - DVD's are normally DVD-R 4.7GB 1X-4X

#3 - DVD's will not play in a normal CDG machine, unless specified that it is DVD compatible

#4 - Burning CDG to DVD, probably not hte same format

Unless it says it burns DVD's, it won't. Same with player, unless it says it plays them, it won't. More companies are starting to get DVD players for a backup player, but i'd say out of all the karaoke places in the nation, the equivalent to a handful actually have the capability to play DVD's - at this time. I know I don't - yet. I doubt if i'll ever buy the discs & haven't had anyone bring in their own yet, but i'd like to be ready when & if someone ever does.

Thanks!

I suppose that means CDRWin won't do the DVD burning...you would probably need another program then...

And.... the .bin files are probably not what would be used to burn the DVD?

Is that what you mean....Allstar?

Thanks guys! Appreciate it :)

Yes you would need another program as well. There are programs out there similar to CDRwin for DVD recording.

Thanks! I did a quick google search on "how to burn karaoke to DVD" and there were not a lot of answers, as opposed to "how to burn karaoke to CD".

I guess I will just have to keep looking, and if anyone ever finds anything...please post :) It would be a great help :)

You guys are the bestest LOL! :) THank you!

The Red Book Audio standards (which includes CDG subcoding) are not the same for DVD/DVD Audio.

Because of that you can't create a CDG for a DVD player (the SCDG is actually a variation of the MP3+CDG format on a DVD). Does that mean there isn't a way to use DVD media? No. You can rip the CDG's to Bin and then convert to Mpeg Video. Then create a DVD of the resulting video files w/ as many tracks as you can fit on the 4.7GB DVD (I'm guessing about 50-75 depending on the length of songs). Of course this would allow you to use it in nealy any DVD player - bypassing the requirement to use a 'standard' karaoke CDG player.

To do this you would have to use a DVD burner and DVD authoring software (which normally comes with a DVD burner).

Nero 6 can do it

Can you give me more details, Knightshow?

It can burn karaoke....or do you have to put them together first as a .bin....or does it hae to be an mpeg?

Do you still need the plexitor (although I will check their site out too)? Thanks :)

Do what? Burn a DVD w/ CD audio and the CDG subcoding?

As ritisroo said, please elaborate. I did research on this a while back and everything I read said it wasn't possible. If that's changed I'd sure like to know. I'm especially curious to see how it would be read since most consumer DVD players don't read the subcoding.

IF you have the contents already ripped to your hard drive, Nero 6 can then burn them to dvd. It can also do the ripping process... provided your burner can recognize the subcode.

speaking of which, I'm only talking about a data drive, NOT one that plays in a dvd player. If that's what you're talking about, you're talking about creating a supercdg, and you need to talk to CAVS about that.

Thanks Knightshow!

The guy at work wanted to know how to put them onto a DVD to play in a karaoke compatible DVD player.

Your website really helped! Thanks a lot :) Appreciate it :)

If anyone wants any info on how to do this, just do a search in google or yahoo for "How to Make Super CD+G"
